Itcrcco TIi" Perishing.
The words o( this song were sug
gested to the noted, sightless song
writer, Fanny Crosby, bjr an inci
dent which occurred during a visit
she made to the Jerry McAuley Mis
sion, down in Water Street, New
York City.
A(ter being taken there
> at her request and given a place
> on the’ platform, she asked It there
was a boy there who had no mother,
and If so would he come up and Jet
her put her hands on him. A moth
erless, little bum came up. She put
hey arms around him and hissed
him. They'separated. Fanny Cros
by went out (rom that meeting and
wrote the soul Inspiring, “Rescue
the Perishing,” and the motherless
boy went out to drift In the world.
When Mr. Sankey was about to sing
this beautltul song In the great re
vival meeting In whlph he assisted
In St. Louis, he arose and related
this Incident. A man In the audi
ence sprang to his (eet and said, “I
am the boy she kissed that night.
I never was able to get away (rom
the Impression made by that, touch
ing act until I became a Christian.
I am now living In this city with my'
(amity, am a Christian and am doing '
a good business.” It pays to do 1
what we believe Jesus would do. 1
That Is what Fanny Crosby did.— 1

Miss Bennett and Mrs. MacDonell
have been earnestly appealing for
this for several years because the
work of the society has been ham
pered by a lack of funds.
Yet If we examine a comparative
table of recelpta for our connections!
work, we will see that only three
conferences last year paid as much
as 22.20 a member. Our South
Georgia Conference paid only 81.25
per member. This Is a reflection on
our, conference, but not in our Aux
