young Ladle* Delighted Large Au
dience In Amateur Play.
There are thirteen young ladle*
at Young’* College who hare pro
nounced histrionic ability. This ver-
diet Is concurred in by every one ot
the (our hundred people who filled
the auditorium at the production of
"At Breezy Point” Friday night
These made the play a financial
success as the receipt* were nearly
one hundred dollars, while the young
actresses made the affair artistically
creditable.
The vehicle for the presentation
of their talent* was a little comedy
drama, dealing with the visit of four
boarding school girls, to "Breezy
Point,” a summer resort. The four

Treasurer
Miss Jeanne Brown,
has been seen before by Thomasville
audiences and her work Is always
good. The niece bad been stolen
when a child, by gypsies, and her
restoration to her parent* was
brought about by “Old Clem,” a
gypsy woman. This difficult part
was well delineated by Miss Bessie
Boy*r. The French maid of one of
the school girls, was acted by Miss
Alice Mae Ansley, and she was far
more dainty and petite than the real
f. m. that strays down this way.
The comedy element was furnished
by Miss Leslie Harrell, as a work
house waif, Misses Edna Thomas
and Adella Nicholson as eccentric
country women, and Misses Katherine
Merrill and Katherine Harrison as
the “Hardscratch Twins." In the
opinion of many, Miss Harrell'wan
the star of the performance. She
played her part with gusto that
showed her enjoyment of It, and she
was not In the least self-cefisclous.
She has a magnetism that projects
Itself across the footlights and puts
her en rapport with her audience.
All this being true, it Is a pity that
the author of the book saw fit to
put Into her mouth a dialect that
was unlike anything In the Heavens
above or the earth beneath.

fit. Mallory also gave encouraging
reports as' to the cantaloupe and
melon crops. He says that the crops
will be-good, in so far as It Is possi
ble to tell at this season. The can
taloupes are grown about Albany on
the Central, but there are a number
grown on the branch lines.
From the reports thus far In hand
the crop will be as large as it was
the previous season, if not larger,
and preparations for a large and suc
cessful crop have been made.
Mr. Guy Cardwell, special agent
Of the Atlantic Coast Line, says the
cantaloupe crop In Florida will be
Increased this year, over that of last
year. The melon crop will also be
large. The Industrial men of the

It was
a strange mixture of Yankee, Greek,
German and Ethiopian, but she did
well with It.
The "twin” girls were favorites
with the audience from their fint en
trance. They were the youngest
members of the caste, but they per
formed their roles like veterans.
Misses Thomas and'Nicholson had
characters that not only called for
words but for aomethlng more diffi
cult, facial expression, and they
meaaured up to the requirement! In
both.
The stage settings were artistic,
and the whole performance ahowed
the care and training given by Miss
Dearing. There were of conrae a
few faults In technique. The young
ladles refused to preserve the bal
ance of the stage, were a little care
less about their exits and entrances,
and sometimes missed a few llsea.
Otherwise the presentation was far
better than many, professional com
panies could have given.
A pleasant feature of the evening
was the music between the acts, by
Misses Rath McBride and Carolyn
Conaughty. The latter gave a vio
lin solo. She la not as tall as her
music stand but was perfectly self-
possessed and was greeted by hear
ty applause. For that matter ap
plause was gsnerons throughout the
evening, and the delighted audience
gave a do* meed ef praise to the
talented young performers.’ People
are inclined to view aakanee the

they will see aomethlng more that
