May ltth She Date.
Mr. Fondren Mitchell mewed that
the date of the primary be act lor
May sixteenth. This brought eat:
the only ripple of opposition to the
entire proceeding*. Dr. McIntosh
■aid that he had no personal Interest
In the matter, but that some people
thought the primary ought to’ be
aet for e Inter date. So far ss he was
concerned he dM not care, but be
thought every one ought to have a
fair show, and called to mind the
action of the congreitonal commit
tee that called an early primary nnd
abut Candidate Spence ont of the
race. The Doctor feared that the
date of Mr. Mitchell's resolution
might keep ont some candidates.
He. asked the voters pressat to think
about this mattsr, and called their
attention to the fact that they might
wish to vote against the resolution.
At the same time, he said, be waa
not making any fight on the reso
lution.
Hr. Mitchell replied that for the
first time to several years ha was
not personally Interested In the out
come of the election, nnd that his
reason for making the date above
was because the congreeslonal pri
mary had already been set for that
day. The candidates wanted the pri
mary on the sixteenth, as It wopld
save expanse,, the people wanted It
because it saved trouble. The ques
tion was called and the day wan set
for the sixteenth, with only one dis
senting vote. ^
The meeting, adjourned after a
harmonious session, and the candi
