Important Changes in
Officials.
Birmingham, Ala., May 12.—At
today’* session of the General Con
ference of the Methodist Episcopal
Church, S^utb, the Cpmmlttee on
Episcopacy recommended the election
of three new Bishops. It recommend
ed the continuation of Bishops Gran-
berry hnd Fitzgerald on the super
annuated list, and that Bishop Dun
can he granted twelve months' ex
emption from active duty, on ac
count of poor health. The salaries
of the active Bishops wore fixed at
|4,000, the superannuated Bishops
at 22,000, and the widows of de
ceased Bishops at $1,000 each.

- Miss Maggie' Pugh, forty-three
years old, and daughter of Mrs. Sa
rah Pugh and. the late Jesse Pugh,
died at the home of her mother on
Colton avenue at 6 o'clock yesterday
morning.
Miss Pugh’s health has not been
good for several years, and during
the pact few months she has been
seriously 111. ’
She was a member of the Metho
dist church, and haa a large number
of friends In Thomasville and Thomas j
county,who will be pained to hear!
of her death.
Funeral services will be held at'
the home this morning at 9:30
o'clock, and will be conducted by
Rev. Dr. Bouchelle. The burial will
take place at Laurel Hill cemetery.

From Conflagration.
Dr. John H. Coyle's suburban
home, "Plnehurat,” on Gordon ave-
nue, came very near burning down

Messrs. Herbert Brandon and
Charley Hamilton were callers at
the house, and both displayed rare
presence of mind. They quickly
smothered the flames, and prevented
what might have been a serious con
flagration.

we have noticed that the world con
tinues to move along the same lines.
