Rain Notes.
If It had not been for the Biblical
promise that that little rain of forty
daye and two acore nlghta would
never bo repeated Thomasvllle peo
ple would have been worried Snnday.
From eleven o’clock In the morning on
for twelve solid hours the flood gatee
were open, their hinges were lost, the
heavens wept and rfused to be com,
forted. When Capt. Strong measured
up at the weather .bureau he found
that 4.14 Inches of moslture had fal
len, which Is pretty cloee to tho ree
led breaker for one day, and more
than half as much as felt Ml last
month.
The atorm was merely as echo of
the great gulf hurricane that-devas
tated property and caused loss of
i life in New Orleans, Pensacola and
Mobile. It was a pretty loud echo,
though, and kept people shut up In
their homes all day long. The
crowda returning from church were
all caught In their gbod clothes, and
ran for shelter. They took no
chancee In the evening and the night
services at ,the churches were aban
doned.
The rain was general all over the
county. The damage was slight but
general. All of the roads were bad
ly washed, and most of the smaller
bridges damaged. All of the larger
bridges are in good shape, and none
were Injured. Superintendent Vaughn
of the road force received reports
every district yesterday and
are all to this effect:
one of the county wagons, load
Ith pipe and feed was going out
yesterday morning It went through a
small culvert. Ed Camp, the negro
driver, was thrown from his seat and
the heavy wagon passed over him.
Superintendent Vaughn took hint to
Dr. Jarrell, iiud the medico says that
lo hones were broken or luternnl In
juries suffered, and - barring a few
figys soroness the negro will be all
right. The wagon wheels were not
hurt either.
