Negro Charged With Attempt
Assault Strung up.
Valdosta, Ga., Nov. 8.—A mob
composed of several hundred white
cltlxens of Madison county, Florida,
went to the county Jail at Madison
last night, overpowered the Jailer
and took the negro who wu cherged
with attempting to auault a whits
woman near Hanson lait Tuesday.
The mob hanged him to a tree and
riddled hie body'with bullets. The
negro wu Identified > and, then con
fessed the crime. ' The young white
woman was attacked while on her
way to the station for maU, but tear
ing herself loose from the negro's

of delayed mall from the superin
tendents at tbo southern divisions,
the postoKco department has taken
the matter up for Investigation with
a view to tailng Immediate stops
tvwnul remedying the situation.
These complaints, coming In from
all parts of tbe south, are more
numerous than they have ever been
before. Delays of mall 'trains are
not oqly getting more and more
frequent, but they are longer, re
sulting In more often missing con
nections.
The letters and reports which
eyes of ths officials to conditions
the last tew weeks have opened the
jjnve reached the department within
which they hardly dreamed could ex
ist.
As a result the post office depart
ment has taken hold ot the matter
and put the rallroade formally on
notice that a compliance with the
mall contracts will-be exacted.
