Leonard Rawlings, ttao second non
of J, G. Rawlings was a passenger on
the “Coast Line (rain that passed
through Thomasvllle at half past ten
yesterday morning. He was In
charge of a guard on his way tp the
convict camp at Babcock, where he
Is under sentence to spend the rest
of his life.
The word was passed around that
the noted prisoner was In the smok
ing car and quite a crowd of the
curious flled through to see him
Leonard Is a stocklly built young
fellow with a rather intelligent coun
tenance. He had the prison pallor
from long confinement, but seemed
In good health and spirits. His
hands were manacled together, and
he was wrestling with the folds of
a newspaper as he waited for the
train to move on.
He chatted freely with all who ad
dressed him. Of course he ex
pressed great satisfaction at having
escaped the gallows, to which he
was sentenced last Friday. He says
he will behave at the camp and ex
pects to get out on pardon before he
dies. He claims Innocence of the
crime. His brothers were taken
yesterday to other convict camps In
different parts of the state.

I see In your paper that there will
be a mass meeting to discuss the
Impounding of the cattle within
your city limits. Would like to say
that the Impounding of hogs that
go In the city limits Is a hardship
on the farmers and to Impound the
cnttle that go over the line will add
another hardship to them. If we
farmers have to do away with our
hogs and dattlo too, on accbunt of
an unjust law that your city might
make, It will make it hard to make
a living for us who are unfortunate
enough to live dose to the city,
We certainly feel that the business
men of the city who know our con
dition will not allow these burdens
to be added to us. .We appeal to
the thinking citizens of your city
not to do It. If you will publish
this card the Interested farmers will
thank you very mach.
