Herring Ordained at Bap-
Church Last Night.

tery consisting of* Rev. A. W. Bealer,
Rev. T. A. White and Rev. M. S.
Stevens.
-The services were very interest
ing, and were attended by a large
number of the members of the
church.
Mr. Bealer read lessons from the
scripture. He first read the sixth
chapter of the Acta of the Apostles,
which tells of the election of the
first deacon. He also read the third
chapter of . Second Timothy, in
which Paul gives the qualifications
of deacons.
Deacon Fondren Mitchell then
presented the newly elected deacon
to the presbytery, and stated that
the church hnd shown IU confidence
in Mr. Herring by a handsome com
plimentary rote.
Following this presentation Rev
M. 8. Stevens delivered the charge
to the chdrch, telling the members
of the duties which they owed the
deacons. .
Rev. T. A. White then delivered
the charge to tbe new deacon, tel
ling him what hla duties to the
rhurch were.
Afterwards Rev. Mr. Bealer stated

ter they had prayed they laid hands

Mrs. Comstock.
Turnage -was employed for some
time in Thomasrille. He left here
a -week ago last' Sunday for Atlanta
where his people live. He had
been arrested by the local police for
disorderly conduct, Just befope his
departure. He stoutly- maintains
bis lnnocense of the crime.

Atlanta, Dec. 10.—‘You will rec
ognise him because I bit one of his
fingers nearly off.’
Such were the words today of
Mrs. Carrie Comstock, who is lying
at the Tabernacle Infirmary serious
ly III as the result of an alleged at
tempt at criminal assault last night.
“Robert Turnage a white man,
under arrest on suspicion of having
committed the crime, vigoronsly
denies all knowledge of it. An ex
amination of his hands, however,
disclosed that one of his lingers was
seriously wounded as if it had been
bitten. He claims to have hurt It
on a barbed wire fence.”

Well Known Citizen, and Prominent

William J. Dickey, a long time
resident* of Thomas county was
buried yesterday from his home six
teen miles south of Thomasrille. He
was one of the widest known resi
dents of thli section, and was the
father of a splendid family that
bears hla name. He was about 80
years of age, and had many friends
In Thpmasvllle. He was a patriarch
among the Methodist of this section,
and was a familiar figure at their
conferences. Therd are many peo
ple throughout the county who will
mourn hla departure to the better
land.
