Just before the train from Albany

Dickey of Grady county .was bo'rn In
Sumter cophty, S, C., Jan. 31, 1828,
moved to southwest Georgia when
about two years bid and was a citi
zen of Grady by 'the new county be
ing made and was one of the first of.
Grady county grand jurors.
Me was married to Annie M. Rey
nolds Jan. 28, 184f.. They were
blessed with nine children and in
1871, Oct. 81, God took her to his
own abode and later four of their
bright children, oije by one, followed
their mother, ieavlng five'to mourn'
the departure-of the father’s going
on Wednesday, Dec. 12., 190'6, 4
o’clodk, p. m.
After the death pf his flrBt wife
Mr. Dickey married Miss Elisabeth
Everett of Cairo. They lived to
gether for some time but she was al
so taken from him and his son A
C. Dickey and his gooij wife moved
from Cairo to the old home and have
been the old father's companions In
his last days.
Mr. W. J. Dlokey has been one of
the leading mgn In Thomas county
for many yedrs as a farmer he was
a success and as a neighbor he was
loved by all. .He joined the Metho
dist church In 1874 and has been a
good, man ever since and when he
would speaS of his church relation
he would say "all that I am sorry of
Is that I did not start sooner In the
work of tho church.” For a long
time, he has been the superintendent
of the Sunday school at Bethpage
,chhrch and- all of the young people
pf the community love him. They
called him Uncle William. The
church community has lost much In
his going but to him it means a man
sion with h|s Lord In the Kingdom of
God for In all of his sufferings he
had the consciousness of the pres
ence of hls Lord.
There are five children left to
mourn the departure of this, our de
ceased brother and father, and they
ilke their father are all good Chris-
tlon children living and blessing the
world with their lives of usefulness.

At nine o'clock yesterday morning
there was considerable excitement
on lower Jackson streetscauscd by a
chase through the "Bottom” of Clar
ence Alexander, a negro employee of
the Variety Works. His pursuers
were four white employees of the
same concern, and Claronco was
glad to take refugo with Officers
Doss and Martin, and be lodged in
the friendly portals of tho guard
house.

been Impudent to the whites for
spme time.' Yesterday he had some
words with sorneof theni, and made
a move for hls hip-pocket, which
they translated as an attempt to get
a pistol. The chase followed. Alex
