EVELYN THAW
ON THE STAND
Young Wife Dramatically
Tells Story of
Life.
(From Friday's Daily.)
New York, Feb. 7.—Evelyn Nca
bit Thaw, wife of the man charged
with the murder of Stanford White,
took the stand today in defense of
her husband.
She told the story of her rela
tions with White. The story was
told in a simple, girlish way, and in
the midst of her narratatlon the
young woman broke down and cried,
proceeding only with difficulty.
The defendant sat quiet for a time
then broke down and buried his face
in hie handkerchief.
Thaw’s wife told of an invitation
to dine, in September, 1901, with
White. He said that “the others”
had disappointed him, and the two
dia^d alone.
After dinner the witness said she
must be going home, when under
pretense of showing her the other
part of the house, he gave her cham
pagne in a bedroom lined with mir
rors. She became unconscious, and
when she recovered, she found that
all her clothing had been removed.
White told her. “It’s all over; It’s
all right.”
Mrs. Thaw said that late in 1903
In Paris, Harry Thaw asked her to
marry him. She refused and gave as
• u reason her former relations with
White. Going back to her earliest
girlhood, the , witness gave the
story of her life; how she posed as
an artists' model and later took part
In the chorus of a musical show. It
was while in the latter occupation
that she met White.

CURE YOURSELF AT HOME
Most persons who are afflicted with Contagious Blood roisou hesitate to
to a physician for several reasons. In the first place the expense is
_ieavy, and they know that the inevitable treatment will be mercury end
potash, strong minerals that act with disastrous effects on the delicate parts
of •the system, and which do not, after all, itally cure the disease. What
they want is a safe, reliable treatment that can be taker at home and'a
feet cure made of this loathsome disorder without unnecessary exposure oi
expense. Snch a remedy is S. S. S.—it is the only medicine that goes down
to the very bottom of the trouble and drives out the Jot trace of the poison
to that there are never any signs of its return j It does not contain a particle
of mineral in any form, and after removing the disease from the circulation
i every part of the system by its fine vegetable tonic properties.

S. S. S. attacks the trouble at its head and

PURELY VEGETABLE and loathsome trouble. For the assistance of
