Both officers' and men are enthu

coast, and declare that they would go
again tomorrow if they could. They
declare that the accounts of rain and
mosquitoes were exaggerated, and
that they were comfortable all the
time.
Say Not Whipped.
Their friend* were Inclined to Josh
them about the defeat they suffered
at the hands of the 8avannah Naval
Reserves In the mimic warfare, the
last nlgbt they were on this Island.
According to the accounts of the Sa
vannah News the Reserves won a
decisive victory end captured the
fort, which was defended by toe
Fourth Georgia. Col. Wylly denies
this In a vigorous Interview l n the j
Savannah Press. He says the Re
serves violated all rules of warfare,
that his men discovered their ap
proach and fired on them, and that
they marched right ahead. Captains
Jarrell and Strong bear out this
Statement. They declare that the
Reserves were repulsed, and that If
the artillery and small arms had
been loaded with tbo real thing In
stead of blanks that the Savannah
troops woud have been annihilated.
This Is a matter that cannot be
"blamed on the umpire," a* there
was no umpire, but the Thomasvllle
boys say had there been oho the vic
tory would have i been awarded to

Handed a Lemon.
For that matter the troop* from
the Interior say the Infantry got the
tarred end of the stick all toe way
through. They say the Savannah
News handed them a lemon In every
printed article. They also say that
the treatment given the artillery de
tachment from Savonuah was much
hotter thsn that accorded them. This
Is explained by the rivalry betweeu
the different branches of the service, j
The troops at Fort Screven are all
heavy artillery and of course felt a |
bond of union with the gunners from
Savannah.
