Meigs, Ga., April Farmers in
this part of the county havo sot
quite finished planting cotton and
are plowing out their corn for the
lint time. The dry weather of the
past two week* has retarded the
planting of cotton.
There hae been great activity in
the sale of fertlliien during tbe
last two month*.
The Farmers’ Union seems to bo
holding Its own, asd many a care
less farmer who baa become Identi
fied with It, haa been made to "all
and take notice” of what his
nelghbon are doing. On this ac
count there has been a general Im
provement In the farming intercuts
of the surrounding country.
Death of Little Child By Fire.
Last Sunday morning while the
family ot Mr. Z. Q. Taylor living
east of this place, were all out ot the
house his four year old daughter
was burned almost to a crisp. Flic
had been' kindled on account of the
cold weather In the early part ot the
day, and splinters were left. The
child in attempting to light the
wood, caught fire and waa baked to
a crisp before aid could be rendered.
Tbe little fellow suffered Intensely
till 1 o'clock In the afternoon, when
death relieved It. v

Bible Lecture at Midway.
There will be a caries ot Bible
lectures at Midway church, two miles
from town, beginning Wednesday be
fore the 4 th Sunday, and will con
tinue three days. Everybody Is in
vited to attend these exercises, ai
the lectures will be made by compe
tent men, and will be Interesting In
the highest degree. The singing at
Mid^hy church Is perhaps as good ms
at any other church In the county.
It will be extra fine on this occasion.
Golden ltulc Club.
The younger set ot this town have
organised themselves Into a “Golden
Rule Club.” It seems to me that is
a fine time for parents to encourage
a disposition towards Tight, active
and correct thinking. The club haa
been-organised tor only about four
weeks and the good la already no-
