Representative Knight, of Berrien, and Doorkeeper Robson Engage In an Exciting Scrap Just Before Final Adjournment. Atlanta, Dec. 13.—A sensational •crone marked the closing hours of the general assembly. A difficulty occur red between Representative Knight, of Berrien, and Doorkeeper Hobson. The house had been in ddsorder for some time and Speaker Morris in or der to preserve order for the final vote on adjournment, called on all the members to bo seated. He designat ed Mr. Robson to toe that his order was carried out. Mr. Knight rose to u point of order. It was overruled by the speaker, and he was told to be seated. He wa# eomewhat slow in complying with the request, and Robson, who was standing behind him, took him by the arm as if to mak»* him take his scat. A scuffle then ensued, Mt. Knight re sisting the doorkeeper's effort. The house was immediately thrown into an uproar, and several members rushed toward the struggling men and suc ceeded In separating them. It was sometime before order was restored and the final vote taken. Dec. 18.—Miss Jessie Thompson, a mill operative, attempted to commit suicide by Diking laudanum. Drs. Clements. Reid and Colwell were called in and succeeded in rostor* ing the young woman. She refused to state any cause for the deed, but it is understood that she had been de serted by a former admirer, a young man who went under the name of Branan while here. Branan was attacked by a relative of the young lady some months ago In this town beoouse he persisted in paying attention to her, and received a knife wound in the head. The couple then left the town together and went to Moultrie. Miss Thompson returned to Pelham ■omo days ago and has been working In the mill since. She will recover. Berkeley, Cal., D.=c. 13.—Professor Edmund O’Neill, of the University of California chemistry department, has discovi : cd a new process of making cyanide potassium from the nitro gen of the atmosphere, a discovery that will allow of the production of the precious compound at a rate far cheaper than it has been possible to manufacture. Such an advantage can be obtained by the new’ method that It is hoped to secure a great reduc tion in the cost of extracting gold from the cyanide process and other similar metallurgical operations.
