Raleigh Woman Suicides In Presence of Her Husband. Raleigh. N. C., Dec. 13.—Mrs. Ed ward Jones committed suicide at b zt home here by blowing out hor brains with her husband's revolver while de ranged by illness. Mr. Jones U collector for the Sea board Air Line, and returning from work late yesterday, was astounded to find his wife ill. He summoned neighbors and wired her relatives, who arrived from Franklin ton by midnight. About 3 o'clock all retired except Mr. Jones, who remained at the bedside. Suddenly Mr*. Jones drew a pistol. oncealed under her pillow, and shot herself through the Mfcad, dying atantly. She had been married six years and had no children. Mrs. Jones was a sister of Captain J. R. Dec. 13.—‘'.'ho secretary of the treasury haa recom mended that $360,000 be set aside in the ternary civil bill for Improvements In the Tennessee river. As Indicated, this $360,000 will be in cluded in the sundry civil bill, which will be passed at this session of con gress. In order to construct the canal 1! Is necessary to excavate several mil ion cubic yards of earth, and the question confronting the engineers Is what to do with it.
