work on the Gainesville Eagle.
The Colombia State insists that it will
“soon be time for the Tuakegee graduate

The Monticello Courier is working for
a board of trade for the progressive town
of Montioello. This is an important
move in the right direction.
A rural editor in Illinois observes
"We prefer living in a small town where
the people will yompatbize with yon in
trouble, and if yon haven't any trouble
they will hunt some up for you.”
GROVER CLEVELAND IS THE MAN.
The Banner is firmly of the opinion that Grover Cleveland can lead the
Democratic party to viotory in the national contest next year.
In addition to entertaining the opinion set forth above, we are as firmly
of the opinion that Mr. Cleveland is the only man who can carry the Demo-
era tic party tf* '*ictory next year.
Oa account of the general sentiment in favor of Mr. Cleveland through
out the country, among the Democrats and others interested in the overthrow
of the oow boy who now occapies the f xalted position of President of the
United States, The Banner made a canvass of the business men of Athens
yesterday, taking them as they were found in onr rounds, and the result of
that otnvass clearly shows that a large majority of the people of this city
are for Mr. Cleveland
Iu the canvass, it is true that some were found who expressed preferences
for other Democrats; some on the idea that Mr. Cleveland is not in the class
of eligibles and others on other gronnds ; some few had no choice to express.
The Banner believes that if every city, town and village in the entire
South should be polled to ascertain the preferences of Democrats for a Demo
crat for President of the United States, a very decided majority wtu’.d favor
Mr Cleveland.
The third term argument against Mr. Cleveland does not
work. The Democrats of the United States shonld put np the very
best and the very strongest man in the ranks to lead the fight on Republica
nism. Mr. Cleveland is the man.
Mr. Cleveland is not seeking the nomination at the hands of the Demo
crats. lie has stated time and time again that he was satisfied to remain in
the retirement snrronnding a private citizen. His whole coarse in this con
nection has been dignified and manly. Every page of his record as a pal lie
officer and a private citizen is clean. A large portion of every interest in the
United States would be entirely satisfied to see Mr. Cleveland at the head of
the government again. The suggestion of his name does not bring to the
surface the slightest feeling of nneasmess or distrnst on the part of any citi
zen of the United States. That old third term suggestion comes to many,
bnt farther than this there is nothing against the man, and this is in the
class of nothing.
The Banner believes Mr. Cleveland can get the nomination if he will consent
to accept It, and as stated, we believe he is the only man in the Democratic
party who oan win against the Republicans next year.
We hope Mr. Cleveland will he nominated. |

ROAST BEEF AS A CURE

"Certaiu of onr contemporaries are in

Women should eat more than men. Instead the health of their

THE PRINCIPAL MEASURES I PROPOSE ARE: FIRST, TO FOR
