This' week teem, with athletic sport,

Trinity is booked for this afternoon,
tomorrow the Tech will battle with
G orgia on Herty field for track honors.
Thursday Vanderbilt will cross bats
with the Red and Blacks, and then it’»

combat with Mrroer on the diamond.
THE TRINITY CAME.
The boys from the North State come
fresh from a tied game and a defeat at
the hands of the Georgia Bsntists. They
bare a strong team and it was not with
out a supreme effort that Ueroer was
able to wrest a victory from them, and
even then on second trial, for the first
game was a twelve Inning one at the
end of whioh the soore was 4 and 4.
The seoond gamo game resulted in the
■oore of 4 to 0, Ueroer on the bed of
down.
And so with the nopleasant memories
of this defeat hanging on them, they
oome determined to drab Georgia, and
express themselves confident to do this.
The grit of all North Carolina teams is
well known and the wearers of the Red
and Black will be np against it.
The Georgians folly expect to add an
other to their string of victories, and
while they are not especially aDxions
..that Trinity shonld be the victim, still
It most be someone and they say the
Tor Heels ate doomec.
The Crackers will be greatly handi
O tpped by the loss of Captain Dickinson
who injured his finger daring praotiee.
and has not suffice ntly re coveted to
warrant his entering the game this after
noon, but Ashley, the youngster from
Valdosta, will be at the receiving end.
and as he has shown up exceedingly
well in practice it is expeoltd that he
will receive the approach shots very sat
isfactorily. Myddleton, the Invincible,
will be on the slab and as these two have
worked together before, the battery will
be a strong one. The rest of the line op
will be the same as has been presented
the last three games, and as it has
proven invincible in those three so will
r it prove this afternoon.
^ Everyone has struck his gait in bat
ting line and bits galore will decorate
the c tfloial soore beneath the name of
Georgia And so it is np to them to
prove to the doubting ones that the
recent victories have not been the result
of chance but of the genuine article of
ball pot np by the Crackers.
Uanager Boyd persisting In his efforts
to please, again offers tickets to the
Trinity and Vanderbilt games for
seventy five cents. Notwithstanding
the destruction of the grand stand as
a result of an overdose of enthusiasm
administered by the drubbing of the
Techs, plenty of comfortable chairs will
be fonnd eager to be used. So all come
ont. The game will begin at 4 :30.
The line np ot the teams will be as
follows:

TECHS SHUT OUT
TRINITY TEAM
A Score of Ten to Nothing
in the Game Yester
day in Atlanta.
Trinity was shut ont yesterday by the
Teche in Atlanta by a scote of 10 to 0.
Both teams went into the game very
much crippled. Brinson of the Tech
was injured daring tbe practice just
before the game and could not enter it
at all, wLile Patterson had to leave the
field cn account of a broken finger.
Chadwick, Trinity’s star catcher was so
disabled as to render him nnable to play,
while two other Trinity men were
injured.
Solomon pitched a splendid game for
the Blacksmiths, yielding five hits and
sending seven men to the bench. Brad
sher was on the slab for the boys from
the North State and while he was hit
freely to the tnne of ten safe drives,
still at times he was invinoible and
strnok ont twelve men.
The rather Spoor showing made by
Trinity in the game yesterday makes
the Georgians feel very confident that
another defeat awaits the Tar heels,
But the Oarolinians t< 1-graphed from
Atlanta for other players to meet them
in Athens, and with a regenerated team
will hold their own against the Oraoken.
The board of governors will hold au
important meeting at the Athemvum
Thursday afternoon to consider the
report to be made by the soliciting com
mittee appointed to sell the second mort
gage bonds of this club, and to pass on
other matters. The meeting will be
held at 6 o’clock and every member of
board is expected to be present.
It is nnderstood that tbe soliciting
committee will report that second mort
gage bonds to the amount of $3,500 have
been placed and that many members of
the clnb have not yet been approached
in regard to the matter. The committee
is composed of: B. F. Holder, Jr., chair
man ; F. A. Lipecomb and W. P. Briggs.
The different cities throughout the
state are now at work arranging the
data for the article that is to be pub
lished in the "Greater Georgia” number
of Harper’s Weekly at an early date.
All the manuscript is to be in the hands
of the secretary in Atlauta by the loth
inst., and the article concerning the city
of Athens is now being prepared by the
secretary of the Chamber cf Commerce.
Iu addition to the reading matter that
is to bs forwarded about the city of
Athens aud the c ;uuty of Clarke, there
will be sent a number of views cf the
most interesting points in this city
which will go toward the proper illus
tration of the article.
It is expected that this special edition
of Harper's Weekly will be of great
benefit in au advertising way to the
entire state. The Athens Chamber of
Commerce has given $100 toward this
fund; the city of Athens $200 and the
county of Clarke $200.
Next week Tallulah Falls will De the
scene of a series of delightful house par
ties. Beginning Saturday 9th, Miss
Rutherford aud Mrs Lipsc omb will en
tertain the Lucy Cobb faculty for sev
eral days at Mrs. Lipscomb’s cottage.
The latter part of the week the Senior
and Elective B classes will be their
guests. This annual louse part7 to the
graduating classes is looked forward to
at the close of the term with the great
est pleasure aud interest. For a few
days text books and examinations may
be forgotten, the ringing of bells stopped
and a loosened rein given to youthful
hearts and spirits.
Following them, Mr. aud Mrs. W. D.
Ellis, Jr., will entertain this charming
party of friends from Atlanta : Mr. and
Mrs. Wilmer Moore, Mr. and Mrs. Robt.
Foreman, Mr. aud Mrs. Roby Robinson,
Mr. aud Mrs. Hollins Randolph, Mr.
and Mrs. Rutherford Lipscomb and Mr*.
Mande Barker Cobb.
Tallulah is most attractive at this sea
son of the year. The hillsides are
covered with the mountain ivy and
many colored azaleas, and the airs fra-
grants with tile trailing arbntns.
This place has always been attractive
to the summer visitor and excursionist,
but since the new road through Clayton
to F’raukliu has been projected, the eye
of the investor as well as the tonrist has
been direotecl towards it The future of
Tallulah is very bright
Daring the first week in July the Bar
Association will holds its annual meet
ing there. Judge and Mrs. Parker, of
New York have accepted an invitation
to be tne guests or rue aaspyiatlanidur -
ing the meeting which promises to be a
a memorable one to the lawyers and
their friends. A beautiful lake and two
swimming pools are among the new
attractions at Tallulah.
A fine hotel on Hickory mountain
would not be a poor investment for some
one to make.
Mr. and Mrs. Rufns Moss will give a
honse party at Tallulah F’alls during the
month of May.
Mrs. Andrew Lipscomb of Washing
ton, D. C , is improving her cottage at
Tallulah F’alls by the addition of two
new rooms. She and Mrs. Hugh Hagan
will occupy it during the summer.
