against the proposition to put the con

of the counties do not waut the convicts.
Chairman Vincent says this is a fact,
hut lie is of thn opinion that that ti e
countits now usintf convicts on their
roads will b» willing, and very glad to
a *ree to take a number of additional
convicts, lie thinks there will be a
anfllcieut number of counties in this
condition »o warrant an agreement with
tho general assemb y to take all of the
convicts of the state, both felony and
misdemeauor, that will not be needed
at other work of the state. By such an
arrangement those counties not defir-
ing to use their own convicts
on their roads could turn them
over to the countiei wauling them,
a provision to be made that the comities

Oct. C-lOth, will be turned ont by the
printers tomorrow or next day and the
work of distributing these lists through
out this section of the state will begin
at onoe.
A total of more than $7,000 is offered
in premiums for agricultural and other
products and racing. A very fine racing
program has been agreed upon by the
members of the racidg committee of the
Fair Association and these programs
will also be ready for distribution within
a few days.
It is nnderstood that about ten coun
ties in this immediate section of the
state will take up the suggestion recently
made by The Banner to bring oonnty
and individual agricultural exhibits to
the Northeast Georgia Fair in this city,
aDd then carry the same exhibits to the
State Fair to he held in Macon Got.
81-31st. In this manner it U thought
that both fairs will get many exhibits
that otherwise would not be made.
Chairman Griffith, of the oommittee
on amusements and advertising, is now
making arrangements for a very fine lot
of amusement features for the fair, and
the work on the grounds and buildings
is progressing as rapidly as possible.

It is useless for anybody to suffer from
the extreme heat as long as the Athens
Ice & Coal Co., has tons and tons of ice
manufactured right here in the city
from pure, distilled water.
Customers of the Athens Ice it Coal
Co., can get any amount of ice at any
time from their large plant, or from
their wagons, which deliver ice regu
larly every day to all parts of the oity.
Such a thing as being out of ice is not
known to the Athens Ice & Coal Co.,
for the capacity of their plant is 40 tons
per day, and on account of the large and
increasing trade they are enjoying, their
capacity is reached nearly every day
throughout the summer months. They
not only supply the bulk of ick consum
ers of Athens, but many of the surround
ing towns and cities get their ice from
this splendid plant.
Telephone 17, the Athens Ice & Coal
Co., and have one of the many wagons
operated daily by them, to call and de
liver your ice every day, or whenever
you cannot get ice elsewhere.
Remember., the Athens Ioe & Coal
Co., always has ice on hand in abun
dance. It is a home institution. The
ice is made here and hundreds of ponnds
of thiir ice is consumed by the people
of Athens every day.
The University of Georgia Summer
School will open its session in this city
July 1st and every preparation is being
made to make that occasion an event
long to be remembered in the oity of
Athens.
The outlook for a large attendanoo
upon the school is very encouraging.
In fact those who are in charge of the
school are satisfied that the attendance
will be larger than at first anticipated.
The ontlook is new favorable to an at
tendance of at least one thousand teach
ers from Georgia and the neighboring
states.
Up to date there have been more than
three hundred and fifty teachers to no
tify the registrar of the Summer School,
Prof. F. M. Harper, of their intention
to attond the school. These teaohers
have been registered and will be here on
the opening day. The mails are now
bringing scores of letters to the regis
trar, yesterday there being thirty-two
names added to tho roll. Each day from
now on until the opening day it is ex
pected that from forty to fifty names
will be added to the roll. The total at
tendance on opening day will not be less
than Beven hundred.
Several of the connties iu Georgia, in
stead of holding their regular teaohers'
institutes, will send their teachers to
the University Summer School. The
latest county to report such action is the
connty of Early. Registrar Harper Is
iu receipt of a letter from Major JonoSj__ /
the connty superintendent of education
of Early connty, in which he states that
at least twenty-five of the teachers from
that connty will attend the University
Summer School
The superintendent of the Summer
School, Prof. E. 0. Branson, has every
department ready for good and effective
work from the very opening hour, and
the faculty, which has among its num
ber, some of the most distinguished ed
ucators of the entire country, will bo on
hand to organize the different classes as
soon aB the opening exercises are over.
The people of Athens will take every
necessary step to make the stay of the
visiting teaohers pleasant. There will
be a large attendance from Alabama and
Florida, as is already evidenced by the
number of teachers from those states
who have registered as students.
