Auder6on Eberhart, a negro man who
resisted arrest Saturday, was touched
up yesterday by Mayor Rhodes to the
tone of fifty dollars and costs. He will
not be so obstreperous the next time in
all probability.
Eberhart bad been guilty of disorder
ly conduct over a month ago and the
officers were laying for him. He was
down on Broad street Saturday after
noon and had a quantity of blue steel
uuder his shirt.
Officer Felton made the arrest, and
Eberhart refused to submit. He cursed
the officer and attempted to use his
knife on him. He had the knife open
iu his hand and the officer had to rap
lnm across the knuckles several times to
make him give it up.
Mayor RhccOs was satisfied that the
conduct of the uegro had been such as
to warrant him giviug him a severe leg-
son both for his benefit aud for the ben
efit of others who take it into their
heads to resist officers in the discharge
of their duties. So he pat upon him a
fine of fifty dollars and costs,
