December 12.—The cot ton market opened firm at an advance of 19 to 27 points on active covering an 1 aggressive bull support, which was encouraged by the firmness of the English market and bullish re ports from the South as to spot condi tions. Trading was very active with the Wall street hears selling at the ad vance and during the -early session the market showed some irregularity but held well up to the best, the ac tive months being about 20 points net higher during the middle of the morn ing. The big Liverpool spot sales were among the bullish factors and wires were received from the eastern belt reporting a good demand from domestic and foreign spinners with business restricted by the firmness of holders and light offerings. The market was very firm late in the forenoon on covering and general buying by local bulls and the South. If a meeting <> f the promoters was held in NVw York today they went about their business so quietly that even their presence was unknown. The most of those who are qualifb <1 to speak of the baseball situation as It exists today agree that there is no room for a third major league in the field, and that there is small proba bility of such an organization being floated. Talk of placing a club in cities where one or two big clubs an- already established is pronounced chimerical. They cannot ligu ■ >>•'’ how a third club could he put in St. Louis, for instance, and made t-> pay. The general opinion is that the N i tional and American leagues will be left to fight It out in the big clt’es not only next season but for a go d many years to come.
