number of residences are projected
and also a number of store buildings.

We are doing some fine works on
the county roads flint lead into Ce
city of Athens and we are satisfied
that you all enjoys yourselves rid
ing over the roads. It takes hard
labor to fix those roads and believe
that our white friends of the city and
county will not mind sending out San
ta Claw to give us a merry Christ
mas. We will thank you all for any
thing yon all give u s. We wish to
call attention to othpr facts and that
Is this; we all as prisoners of this
county of Clarke is being treated all
right and are satisfied. We lias a
good- captain, and the guards is all
right; in every way they is tile besl
guards in the state of Georgia. Mr.
W. S. Holman, manager of the prison
ers, are all right in every way of do
ing right and trying to give satisfac
tion.
We are been well Mossed with tho
gospel by Itev. G. Stone, of this city,
and he Is well thought of by all the
prisoners of this camp. He is a minis
ter whom God has sent to preach his
word May God bless him In his
works and bid him speed go on.
So we will expect our white friends
to send round Santa Claw: it will be
'kindly excepted. So we all here are
kindly treated and hereby give thanks
to Capt. F. P. Mann and all the
gnerds. May God bless this entire
camp.

between the representatives of Wash
iugtou and Lee and those of the Uni
versity of Georgia.
The first debate between these two
institutions was held last year in
Virginia. The debate this year will
lie in Athens, 'sometime about April
LOtil.
The G'-ugiu boys have submitted a
question to Washington and Lee, and
if it is accepted the preparation for
tin* del.ate will go right ahead.
Much more attention is being
shown to debating among the Uni
versity students than has been shown
for some time past, and it is having

The plan to run an unannounced
candidate, as agreed upon hy a few
citizens the day before, did not ma
terialize. when it was found that the

Mr. Rowe desires to thank his
friends heartily for their generous sup
port and for the interest they mani
fested in his race. He appreciates
very much the manner in which they

the duties of the office with a renewed

DAMAGE CASE
WAS SETTLED
The damage case of Albert Lester
against the Athens Electric Railway,
has been settled between the par
ties.
This waB a case in which Lester,
who was injured in a collision be
tween a street car and a flat car load
ed with crossties, was suing the com
pany for damages.
It was set for hearing at this term
of the city court, but having been
settled by the parties, was stricken
from the docket.
Dr. dohuson asked him one or two
questions, the judge making two ef
forts to speak, hut failing. The guc
had been discharged in iiis abdomen.
He lived only shout a minute after
tieing reached hy Dr. Johnson.
Tile unfortunate man had been
crawling over a .fence about four feet
high and it is siqiposed that before
mounting it lie placed his gun on the
opposite side. Ill climbing over he ac
cidentally struck the gun which caus
ed it to he discharged. The shot
ranged upward and for this reason
it is supposed that his body was a lit
tie above the muzzle of the gun when
it was fired
The body was brought to the home
of Judge Lott in Waycross this after
noon. The funeral services have not
yet been arranged.
Judge iaitt was one of the best
known men ill Ware county and in this
section of the state. His wife was
formerly Miss Hattie Williams, the
daughter of Dr. Ben Williams, one of
th" pioneer citizens of Waycross Mrs.
I.ott and five children survive him.
Misses Edith and Clyde Iiott, of this
city: Lieut. Warren Ixitt, of the Unit
ed States army, who is now station
ed at FL McPherson, and two little
boys.
Judge laatt was a mall who had the
respect and confidence of the people
of this section to a great degree. He
is mourned by people of all classes.
The deceased was 57 years old.

DEATH OF LITTLE BABE
OF MR. AND MRS. BONNER.
Yesterday at the home of the fond
parents in Grays. Ga., occurred the
death of the infant of Mr. and Mrs.
J. W. Bonner. Mrs. Bonner will ho
remembered by Athenians as Miss
Wilhelmina Beusse. The sorrowing
parents have the sympathies of many
friends in this city_
