GRIFFITH &
WELCH’S
COTTON LETTER.
Athens, Ga., December II.
The Liverpool and New York mar
kets were steady today with hut lit
tle change in prices during the day
Exitorters are asking for cotton and
offering a good premium over ex
change quotation prices. During the
week the feature of most interest was
the glnners’ report, which undoubted
ly verified the short crop estimate!.
Those who now predict a large crop
do so blindly and If they are back
Ing their judgment will in the long
run find it expensive. The India crop
Is officially reported 10 per cent, less
than last year, and with tho excep
tion of America the consumption of
cotton will be increased over las!
year.
It is easy to see why the foreign
demand is so strong and good reason
to believe it will continue so. The
Aemrlcan spinners East are inquiring
for cotton now and they may come in
the market next month.
The exports still show heavy move
ment and the port and interior stocks
continue to decrease in comparison
with last year We may have tempo
rarv declines in prices, but the tenden
ey is toward steadily rising prices dur
ing January.

The county executive committee
was to have held a meeting yester

T. S. Moll for the purpose of fixing

Monday at noon, at which time the
date for the primary will be fixed.
While no date has been agreed up
on. it has been suggested that Satin -
day, January Ifitb. would be a good
date, as that is the only day of the
week on which the traveling men can
vole, and they constitute a large part
of the eommunty, whose conven
