The alcohol prescriptions for tho
month of December as recorded in
the ofTice of Ordinary Wingfield show
an increase over the number • regis
tered for the preceding thirty days.
This time there are 97 prescriptions
recorded and the number, lacking on
ly three of reaching the hundred
mark, sets a new record for the pre
scriptions for any one month, and
about 15 above the number registered
for the preceding month.

The number of real estate transfers
for the month of December shows an
unusually healthy increase and as
this Is one of the surest means of il
lustrating the commercial growth of
the city, it is worthy of note that this
past month the number of recorded
transfers of real estate was 85.
This, being a decided increase over
November's record, shows that re
cently Athens real estate has been
r.ot only moving upward in value, but
that there have been a number of
people to take advantage of the steady
increase to dispose of some of their
holdings. This" means more citizens
and more homes for the city and as
there are a number of transfers of
aluabto property in the business sec
tion of the city, also means more im
provemonts and better buildings in
that part of the city.

Northeastern circuit of Georgia has
opened up this week with the formal
announciements of Col. Robert Mc
Millan of Clarkesviile and Col. Will-
ford B. Sloan of Gainesville.
Col. F. M. Johnson of Gainesville
who was spoken of for the running
announced that he will not be in the
race. Col. B. P. Galllard, a son of
Prof. Galllard of the N. G. A. college
faculty at Daliloncga and a grandson
of Col. Boyd, was contemplating the
race, but withdrew. Col. J. G. Col
lins, who also spoke of shying his
castor into the ring, has not yet de-
