many
citizens have made appeals to have
the order rescinded In order that the
children, the small children, might be
allowed to have the pleasure, and at
the same time receivo the benefit of
the splendid outdoor exercise which
skating gives.
A few days after the order hail
been published, Col. M. G. Michael,
who was at that time In New York,
on business, saw the notice in the
Banner. He immediately wrote to
the mayor and entered a protest
against the order setting forth the ad
vantages afforded by this harmless
exercise for the children’s health, and
with a most forcible argument urged
(he repeal of the order and allow the
little tots to skate.
The letter was written on Febru
ary 8th, is given below, and shows
the Interest Col. Michael lias In all
tilings for which he believes to be for
the good of this city, and for the good
of our people.

“The Time, the Place and the Girl,”
be It understood, is not a musical
comedy, but a "comedy with music."
That is to say, that Us dramatic val
ues would be sufficient to provide an
evening's entertainment for a mental
adult, even if there were no songs to
enliven the proceedings. It is legiti
mate comedy, with a sane plot and
situations and legitimately enhanced
by two or three delightful reproduc
tions of unusual and amusing charac
ter types.
The moat Interesting characters In
the piece are those of “Happy” John
ny Hicks and Molly Kelly.
The “tree doctors" go up Into the
tiees and-trim out the dead wood, all
unnecessary branches, and when they
are through with a tree It is trimmed
so that it will grow to the most sym
metrical shape possible. The experts
have been in tills city for some, time
anil in addition to the work for the
county, have doctored the shade trees
of many citizens. Curiously enough
the “tree doctors." are from Indiana,
and have come all this way to work
