The story of the growth of the Bap
tist Tabernacle has been a marvel to
many. Pastor Neighbour when the
ork started the seventeenth day of
last October said that he wanted God
do a work that could not be ac
counted for an any human lines. This
ish has indeed come to pass.
The growth of the membership has
been from God. When one considers
that all during the winter the congre
gation has met in the large tent on
hilds street, with nothing but a can
vass between them and the sky above,
and yet the congregation has never
failed a service, either on Sundays nor
eek nights, it stems a marvel.
During the winter months six
stoves kept the tent heated, making

it as comfortable as any church build
ing in the city. The coldest weather
Ihe tent was quite comfortable. Then
also, anothtr fact that seemed impos
sible is that on almost every Sunday
night since the church was organized
and the pool built under the tent,
there have been baptisms. All told
103 have been baptized. Under the
tent two dressing rooms were built
out of rough lumber, and a neat little
ater heater installed. This has
proved its value.
The work on the Tabernacle to be
dedicated today was begun early in
March. The building as it stands
completed is one of the most commo
dious and handy work shops for the
Lord Imaginable. It practically cov
ers the lot on Childs street where it
stands. The building is a frame struc
ture, tabernacle style, standing 95 feet
square. The exterior walls are cover
ed with a very heavy pebble-dashed
off with pure white balastrades which
set against the mahognay coloreo
Beavor Board. Lying behind the gal
lery, on the four sides are the spien
did Sunday school rooms. These
looms are finished with comformity to
Ihe main auditorium, each of them
opening onto the four-foot isle which
lies immediately behind the last row
of gallery pews. The doors through
the building are painted white, and all
have a neat transom over them.
The ceiling cannot fail to bring
forth exclamation of pleasure by all
who see it. It is of steel, the patern
b- ing a beautiful design, fitting the
general architecture of the whole. The
ceiling is finished in a clear, dead
white. The lighting scheme is the
best and latest in that line. The elec
tric lights are arranged to throw the
light up against the ceiling, with the
effect that the auditorium will bo
lightly indirectly, and with perfect

The baptistry is finished in white

sermon. These three men compose
tlie pastors of the Tabernacle. Be
sides them Dr. M. A. Jenkens, of Spar

First church, this city, and other min

be gladly heard once more by his
many Athens fritnds.
Following tlie dedication begins the
first revival meeting to be held by
iliis new church. The services of Dr.
J. H. Dew. of Missouri, have been se
cured as evangelist. The revival will
continue for two or three weeks.
The Tabernacle Sunday school will
meet today under the tent. Evange

srhool will be adjourned in ample
time for the scholars to get a seat in
the Tabernacle before the rush for
seats puts seating room at a premium.
