Monday morning found an unusual
audience, for the proverbially busy
day. The evangelist preached upon
Whatsoever ye do do all to the glory
of God." 1 Cor. 10:31. His message
was. to many the most helpful of any
yet given. The people of Athens
ought by all means to hear these
morning sermons, they are rich with
thought and beauty.
“The motive of service,” was the
main thought running through the
hole discourse. Too much is done
for “my church." and "my denomiua
lion” and not for the glory of God.
God can only bless the work that is
tor Him, and wholly for Him. When
we pray "that we may consume It up
on our own lusts." we have lost the
place of power.
Monday night was greeted with one
of the heaviest rains of tile year. The
rain fell in torrents with but little
cessation. The crowds were there
fore broken into considerably. As is
often the case, however, the services
proved unusually helpful.
Evangelist Dew preached upon
“The Holy Spirit and Power.” He
emphasized the fact that no man can
preach for God without lie is annoint
ed with the Spirit—that is preach an
effective gospel, a soul-winning gos
pel. People might join the church
under such preaching, but they join
just as one would join the lodge, etc,
What is needed Is the power of the
Spirit to convict of sin. then salvation
will follow.
This morning the evangelist will
preach upon “Definite praying and
specific working for the salvation ol
souls.”
Tonight comes the sermon to back
sliders. This is looked forward to
with eager anticipation. May God
make it a great power in the salvation
of many.
There were four baptised last night
preceding the service.

Heard of Athens Elks Disport Them
selves Before the Movie*s Camera
Yesterday quite a number of the
movie fans enjoyed the pleasure oi
seeing local actors in a delightful com
edy called the ‘'Elks’ Barbecue and
Ball Game” yesterday at the Lyri*
theater. Some days ago on the occa
sion of the hall game between the Ath
ens Elks and the Elberton Elks and
the subsequent barbecue Manager Po
se.v of the Lyric—who is an Elk—
took advantage of the fellows and got
them with his little movie camera.
The film is here and there are soma
cutting-up it may be believed. The
ball game has snme good passages—
the first base stunts of Sheriff Jack'
son and the trick pitching of Ross
Creekmore, who by an eccentricity of
the camera Is made to pitch nineteen
balls over the plate In less than ten
seconds, and other bits of the gams
are Interesting. The barbecue—if
would be sinful to tell 'What all tba
camera got there; Mr. Haselton In
close communion with a hunk of bar
beetle about the size of a country ham;
A1 Deadwyler with a jug of molasses
and a corn pone coming down both
sides of the road; Joe Deadwyler and
Van Deadwyler I losing for the before
and after type, Mr. Magill helping
to the hash, et al, and others, and a
few more, and so fourth and so fifth
and sixth, and then some.
There are other good pictures to-
day: "The Northern Spy,” a fine fea
ture Bison in two reels; and another
comedy. They're all good.
A Light Contest

Scores enjoyed the hospitality and
appreciated the enterprise of the Ath

yesterday and last night in furnish

entertainment the city has had—an
hour In the Majestic theater whero
about the best bill going of new and

There was a contest in skill on also
—estimation of the lights shown
plainly in a huge glass box. The win
ner will be announced from the stage
of the Majestic this evening after S
o'clock. The judges are to be Mr.

THE Y. M. C. A.
Only two weeks from today and the
members of th© boys’ camp of the
Young Men's Christian Association
will be leaving Athens over the South
ern railroad for Camp Chatooga, in
the mountains of north Georgia.
The camp site is only five miles
from Tallulah Falls and is located on
the Chatooga River, which is the
boundary between South Carolina and
Georgia In this northeastern part of
the state. It is one of the most beau
tiful and attractive mountain streams;
broad, clear; bounded on eitber side
by blue mountains, and like a silver
thread winding its way in and out and
at the camp-site is located one of the
most Ideal swimming holes that the
campers have ever enjoyed.
Two weeks in the mountains In a
tented city, enjoying at first-hand con
tact with mother nature. The fresh
air, the sweetly scented forests, and
cool and Invigorating 'waters of Cha
tooga; the inspiration which comes
from open vista and mountain-top out
looks, will make for those hoys and
men who go stronger character, more
vigorous physical life, a purer spirit
ual companionship with the things of
God's out of doors, and will be an ex
perience in the life of everyone which
will build up into better manhood.
Thirteen dollars -and fifty cents
($13.50) covers the cost of the camp
for these two weeks, which begins
when we leave Athens and lasts until
we return. No better vacation cap be
given the boy, nor enjoyed by the
man, than on one of the Young Men’s
Christian .Association camping par
ties. The fellowship alone is a great,
rich experience that is never forgot
ten. The athletic contests, the moun
tain 'hikes and the great water sport
features make clear the eye and
steady the nerves and strong the en
durance, of the fortunate campers.
The party will leave on July 8th tod
will return on the 22nd. For further
information apply at the association.
TWELVE INK

There were some tight squeezes
yesterday in the “prof” games as re

would you think It!—was a twelve

the nines worn out and ready to quit
scrapping one another there had not
been a run made on either side. In
the American league also there was a
double header between Chicago and
St. Louis; in the first game it was
close enough, but the second took a
dozen innings to settle the title to the?
score.
