The play was made under the per sonal supervision of David W. Grif fith, who supervised “The Birth of a Nation” and comes as the first of a series of photo-snectacles based on historical crises in the growth of the United States. “Martyrs of the Alamo” is inspired by the thrilling struggle of Texas for independence from the yoke of the dictator, Santa Anna. I Famous characters of the Alamo days, David Crockett, Silent Smith. ■James Bowie, Santa Anna, and other well known figures are impersonated by the pick of the Griffith Company's players, including Sam De Grasse, ■Valter vLong, A. D. Sears, Augustus Oarney. Juanita Hanson, and Ora Carew. The most sublime sacrifice of Amen Lean blood for the cause of liberty, the Battle of the Alamo, is deserving of the adequate picturing it has re ceived at the hands of the world’s master director, as likewise is the defeat of the Mexican army of 6,000 men by Sam Houston’s handful oi American soldiers, which gives Texas her freedom, and the careful pictured recital of the stirring times and strug gles of those early pioneer stirs the sap ,’n one’s veins until it feels like the red-iblood of our hard-fighting an cestors. Emphars is laid on the historical accuracy of the picture. Great pa triotic enthusiasm was aroused by the play on its- presentation in New York, Chicago, and Philadelphia, and the critics were unanimous that •iMartyrs of the Alamo” ranks in a class with “The Birth of a Nation.” SAVED BY WIRELESS,” MACK SENNETT’S TWO REEL THRILLER. On Tuesday tht Elite presents in the Triangle program a hair-raising Keystone comedy that reaches the top notch of daring. Intrigue, espionage, hairbreadth escapes, an automobile and motorcycle race and a blown up yacht all figure in “Saved by Wire less.” 'Mack Sennett, the Keystone pro ducer transcends all previous exploits in this marvelous tale of international spies. One actually sees all these things and wonders how it is done and how the intrepid actors consent to take such chances. Chester Conklin, well known as ‘iMr. Walrus” of the Keystone Come dies, and the eminent comedian, Mack Swain, have the leading roles in this daring comedy extravaganza, and have excellent support in the cast of Keystone comedians.
