THE BANNER, SUNDAY MORNING, JANUARY 2,* 1916.
“THE BRIDESMAIDS” ONE OF THE CHORUS NUMBERS IN THE MUSICAL COMEDY OF YOUTH “WHEN DREAMS COME TRUE” COMING THE COLONIAL THURSDAY, JAN. 6.
OFFERINGS AT THE COLONIAL
"When Dreams Come True," which
will he presented at the Clonoial on
Thursday evening, is a combination of
melodrama, farce, music and danc
lng. Tlie first act takes place C3 the
deck of an ocean liner, bound from
Havre to Xeiw York. The principal
character, “Kean Hedges," is a swift
young American, who lias been en
tangled with a Parisian dancer, to the
Intense anger of his father in New
York, who, hearing of the escapade
has cut off his son's revenue. The
youthful adventurer thus has found
It necessary to go home in the steer
age, where, of course, he is very mis
erable. But. in the first cabin, there
is a charming girl, who, unknown to
herself, is being made use of by a
woman smuggler to land a string of
valuable pearls in America. The
young man sees her from his place
9n the steerage deck, although he
cannot approach her. J^ater they meet
upon the dock in New York, and
Hedges assists Beth to outwit the
customs officers, thus earning her re
gard and the complications of their
true love immediately begin.
There is a lively chase for the
string of pearls, participated in by
the young girl, the female smuggler
and a score of custom house detec
tives. The costly bauble passing
through the hands of most of the
characters before matters are straight
ened out at the finish.
There are three acts in "When
Dreams Come True,” and in these
four complete sets of scenery are
shown. The ballroom scene in the
final act is painted on silk instead of
canvas. This original and expensive
plan having been employed to secure
a lighting effect of great beauty.
The book of “When Dreams Come
True" is by Philip Bartholomae, au
thor of “Over Night” and “Little
Miss Brown,” and the music is by
Silvio Hein, the composer of many of
.Marie Cahill's greatest successes.
The company engaged to prees<nt
"When Dreams Come True” numbers
fifty people, most of them artists who
have gained fame as players of abil
ity. There are two dozen pretty girls
to grace the stage, a score of danc
ing numbers, no end of whistleable
ear tinkling musical numbers and an
assortment of the very latest and up-
to-date feminine finery of the most
costly kind.

Everywhere the great film has been
shown it has been received with en
tuhsiasm that stirs the patriotism of
every American citizen.
William. Hale Thompson, mayor of
Chicago, saw the picture at the Olym
pic theater and was so much im
pressed with the lesson it carries for
the people of the United states that
he wrote a personal letter to the pro
ducers and commended it to the
American people as a whole. It is not
a propaganda for war but is a picture
which is the natural outgrowth of the
principles and ideals of our people.
It looks not on war as ALL WJIONG
but honors the valor that gave us a
Bunker Hill Monument, the phrase
of “Don’t Give Up the Ship," a Lee,
a Lincoln, a Dewey, and a patriotism
that v ?ftEs viewr been questioned but
which is endangered.
That this picture is coming to Ath
ens so soon after its release is only
possible on account of the moving
picture interests that are centered
here and it is by speci.il arrangement
that the Colonial will show it on Jan.

Special music written for the pic
ture will .be played at both matiness
and night by Haughey’s orchestra and
with no exception this is the best
moving picture offering the public has

A grateful sufferer writes:—“I was

failed, and I was under the care of a

Large Drill in Small Press.
Drilling a hole larger than the maxi
mum capacity of a small drill press
can be done by turning down tne
shank of the drill to a size that will
fit the chuck. The hole should first
be drilled a size smaller than is de
sired; then tlie large drill used. This
step is necessary because the speed
of the average small press is too fast
for a large drill.—World's Advance.

New England Caution.
The caution of tlie New Englander
i». giving a direct answer to a direct
question is proverbial. Two natives of
a New Hampshire town met after the
funeral, and the first asked: “Was
not your father’s death very sudden?”
Slowly drawing one hand from his
pocket, and pulling down his beard,
tlie other replied, thoughtfully: “Waal,
rather sudden for him.”
Indigestion.
Indigestion follows rye bread only
because of the yeast in it. The tem
perature of the intestines is the most,
favorable possible for producing a re
newed "rising" of the yeast, and
through this chemical process the In
testines are poisoned, and clner foods,
r.otahiv the acids from fruits and some
vegetable, add to tne trouble.
Somewhat Personal.
A skeptic who was badgering a sim
ple-minded old man about a miracle
and Balaam's ass, finally said: “How
is it possible for an ass to talk like
a man?” “Well,” replied the nonest
old believer, with meaning emphasis.
“I don’t see why it ain’t as easy for
an ass to talk like a man as it is for
a man to talk like an ass."
