A NERVOUS
BREAKDOWN
Mis* Kelly Tells How Lydia
E. Pinkham’s Vegetable
Compound Restored
Her Health.
LETTER JUST RECEIVED FROM ONE
OF OUR LARGEST AND BUSIEST OF
BASE HOSPITALS AT THE FRONT
Newark, N. J.—"For about thr?:
years I suffered from nervous bree':
down and got ,o
weak I could hardly
stand, and had head
aches every dav *
- tried everything I
- could think of and
was under a phy
sician’s care for two
years. A girl friend
had used Lydia E.

she told me about
I it. From the first
day I took it I began
to feel better and
y now I am well and

kind of work. I
have been recom

pound ever since and give you my per
mission to publish this letter ”—Miss
Fi.o Kelly 476 So. 14th St., Newark,
N. J.
The reason this famous root and herb
remedv Lydia E. Pinkham’s Vegetable
Compound, was so successful in Miss
Kelly’s case was because it went to the
root of her trouble, restored her to a
normal healthy condition and as a result
her nervousness disappeared.
About Constipation.
Certain articles of diet tend to
check movements of the bowels. The
most common of these are cheese,
tea and boiled milk. On the other
hand raw fruits, especially apples
and bananas, also graham bread and
whole wheat bread promote a move
ment of the bowels. When the bow
els are badly constipated, however,
the sure way Is to take one or twb
of Chamberlain’s Tablets Immediate
ly after supper.

It has been a long time since I
'have written though there is never a
I day passes that 1 do not think many
times of you all at home. Bach
morning when I get up X plan to
write a letter bt fore the day’s work
begins and each night I think I will
n litter written before going to
bed but for the past two weeks there
has never been a time when I felt
that there was not some urgent duty
culling me.
The day begins at 6:15 in the morn
ing and I usually get to bed at about
eleven, sometimes a little earlier,
sometimes a little later, but I am)
perfectly well and not even tired.
|’\ e never had a larger number or
ratients to look after and have never
seen a more interesting clinical ma
terial. The medical service alon^ is
about as large as the entire Hopkins
used to be when I was an interne
there. My schedule gets me around
to each ward for a regular visit
just once a week, but of course in
additional to regular rounds I get in
every ward nearly every day. There
are five men besides myself on the
medical staff (no six) and they are
ail excellent men and we work very
harmoniously which adds greatly to
the pleasure as well as to the effec
tiveness of the service.
The relations between the medical
service and surgical service are very
pleasant and each is frequently call
ed in consultation by the other.
Major Davis and I gave up our in
dividual offices today to make room
for more beds and now we share a
very large commodious office togeth
er. There are two large windows
with eastern exposure and we look
out on a very pretty and well kept
garden. It’s nice to have an office
but for three weeks past 1 think I
have not spent more than an hour in
mine altogether.
We have been having good steady
cold weather most of the time since
Christmas with more or less snow
and the ten minutes walk over to
Chatfau Creapy thr»e times a day
for meals is not only a pleasur but |
an excellent bygenie measure. These ’
mornings when we go over to break- I
fast It is not fully light and in the !
evening when we go to dinner it is
sc dark these moonless nights that
we have to take our flashlights along
or else run the risk of getting lost.
A few nights ago Captain O’Neil ar
rived late to dinner and explained
that he had spent just 25 minutes in
getting from the hospital over to the
Chateau. Me said that after wan
dering arcund in the woods coinpktt-
ly lost he met a sentry who told him
that, lie was headed direct for the
hospital instead of the chateau
where he wanted to go to which
Captain O'Neil replied. “Well, will
you please take me by the hand and
lead me to where I can get something
to eat” (or words to that effect).
We have some new soldiers sta
tioned with us now who are doing
! guard duty and they are pretty raw'
westerners. least night as I was go
ing to dinner, it was black dark, ,f
t was challenged by one of them who
• was doing sentry duty. “Halt,” came
out of the darkness. I came to an
abrupt stop (the sentries are all
armed with automatics and I didn’t
know whether this fellow knew' how
to shoot or not). I knew he was
green and Just for fun thought I’d
see what he would do. I kept per
fectly still and waited. He evidently
Pad forgotten his speech and so we
both stood about ten feet apart In
the darkness, finally he said, “Wh—i
Wha—What’s your name?” (The
phrasq is “W|io goes there?” and)
then “Advance and be recognized.”)
“An officer of the post.” Another
silence and then very gingerly h»
approached sidling along peering at
me out of the darkness. “All right,
go along.
January 15th. Again on detached
duty for a few days. Well and hap
py but plenty busy. Expect to call
on Miss iMary tonight if I can man
age it.
A Hint to tho Aged.
If people past sixty years of age
could be persuaded to go to bed as
soon as they take cold and remain
in bed for one or two days, they
would recover much more quickly,
especially if they take Chamberlain’s
Cough Remedy. There would also
be less danger of the coll being fol
lowed by any of the more serious
Officers’ Training Camp
Porto Rico is Booming
(By Associated Press.)
San -luan, Porto Rico. Feb. 9.—
Probably three thousand applications
v ill be received for tho second offi
cers’ training ranip and from this
number it is likely that not to exceed
40b men will be selected for the train
lug. Of this number 100 may be ne
groes provided that many desirable
candidates can be found. Those In
rnarge of the details of selecting the
student officers are of tho opinion
that an unusually fine type of men
will enter tho second camp which
was to begin instruction February 1.
With the admission of 100 negro stu
dent officers the quota for white
student officers was reduced from
400 fo 300.
When You Have a Cold.
It Is when you have a severe cold
that you appreciate the good quali
ties of Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy.
Mrs. Frank Crocker, Pana, III.,
writes: "Our five-year-old son Paul
caught a sever cold last winter that
settled on his lungs and he had ter
rible coughing spells. We were great
ly worried about him as the medl
cine we gave him did not help him
In the least. A neighbor spoke so
highly of Chamberlain’s Cough Rem
edy that I got a bottle of It. The
first dose benefited him so much that
I continued giving It to him until
ho was cured.”
For the sixth consecutive year Wiilys-
Overland has won the honor of being awarded
Lite first choice of exhibition space at the
New York and Chicago Automobile Shows.
This distinction is based upon largest
production among the 120 members of the
Automobile Chamber of Commerce.
This Model 90 helped a great deal toward
achieving this cherished success.
80,000 of this model have already been
sold.
Leading Again
The most complimentary thing about
these sales is the variety of reasons why
people bougnt this car.
I:s big-car stylish appearance, modem
equipment and easy handling influenced some.
Some bought it because of its capacity
for hard work and consistent performance.
Still others because it is comfortable.
Others because of its service and price.
Sum them all up—they total exactly the
kind of a car that you want in 1918.
