Washington. Feb. 9.—At midnight,
ninety-six hours after the Tuscania
was sunk by a German submarine, a
little more than a thousand nanus of
survivors were announced here by a
ci.mmittee on public information. A
few more names are in possession of
the war department, but won’t be
arranged for publication before to
morrow, when it is expected that the
remainder of the survivors' list will
have come from England. No new
official figures on losses are available
tonight.
All day a steady stream of the
names of the saved flowed in over
cables and telegraph wires and was
given the right of way over all ex-
c‘*pt the most urgent business.
Despite the preference given to the
list, more than 150 names of the first
thousand arrived in such a jumbled,
Ircorrect form that they meant prac
tically nothing, and it will be neces*
srry to check back over the cables
before they are straightened out.
Partial lists of survivors were tele
graphed to many parts of the country
today. Those who failed to find the
rnme sought may be reassured. To
day's lists were about a quarter of
the total of those kitown to be saved,

Georgia defeated Mercer by a 74 to
9 score In th° second basketball game
played locally this season.
I Several weeks ago the Red and
Black team journeyed down to the
Central City and met the Baptist team
there and barely came out with a vic
tory and therefore everybody was
primed last night for a battle royal,
as the phrase goes, but the Mercer
bunch came to Athens town with a
patched line-up and Georgia had no
difficulty whatever in giving them a
severe drubbing.
| The Mercer team was a “one-man"
team and a team of this kind has ab
solutely no chance with the Red and
Black team. Charlie Morgan was that
one man and he played a splendid
game but he could not expected to do
much singled handed against a team
with such men as Sco t, Mott, and Cox
in the line-up, but Charlie did the
i best he could and that is quite c on
siderable. He scored all nine points
made by his team: be played forward;
and he played grurd all a: the same
lime. He was in evidence throughout
the entire game and played one of the
best games we have had the pleasure
of seeing.
