THE BANNER, SUNDAY MORNING, FEBRUARY 17, 1918.
PAG? THIRTEEN
■HESS WEEK Ai SWELL FUND
ENLIST AT ONCE VIMS
—FOR TOBACCO FOR THE SOLDIERS
Athens, In common with the rest
of the- entire country, Is to observe
“Smpkelas Week" for the next few
days—the nitlon-wide campaign for
Washington birthday week, from
February 18to to the 23rd, being on.
Smokeless week?
.It’s when the folks at home, over
here, who smoke quit smoking for a
day, that they 'may give that day’s
lobaceo to the boys "over there”—In
the trenches and camps of France.
The Banner Is the officially author
ized agent here for the "Our Boys In
France Tobacco Fund.” More than
flOO was raised and sent to the cen
t's! committee In New York Christ
mas—and $200 In tobacco was sent
across.
Now a special drive to replenish
the soldiers’ store of smokes Is made;
?5 cents will send a kit, a week’s
supply, to a soldier; $1 will get one
soldier
can tobacco—and bring back to the
YOUNG MEN BETWEEN 18 AND 21—
AND A LITTLE OVER—MAY
' JOIN THE ARMY.
The law will soon be passed to
draft all the young men who have
donor a card of thanks from the reach6d their 21st birthday since the
frcnt.
Send or bring to the Banner what
ever contribution you would like to
make. If you do not give up your
own smokes for a day—give as much
as you spend on your smokes for one
day.
This Is one llttU service in which
all may have a part and carry com
fort to the boys abroad.
5th of June, 1917. The recruiting
action In Athens Is offering all these
young men—and. indeed, all over 18
years of age,—a chance to enlist.
There Is choice now of departments
anff classes of service’; the 21-year-
j old ones will soon have to go where
they are drafted and sent.
The moral is enlist novy.

WHERE THERE WAS MUCH
SMOKE NO FIRE APPEARED
The fire department was called last
night to the block on the west side
of College avenue, between Broad
end / Clayton, where volumes of smoke
from the upstairs seemed to indicats
fire In the building. But no fire was
found. A chimney from a restaurant
for two hours or more sent forth
cioudB of smoke and sparks and the
Positive—Convincing Proof. .
Many so-called remedies for anae
mia are only so in name. Their
makers are afraid to prove their
claims by telling what their medi
cines contain.
The only way to b: honest with
the people Is to let them know whji
they are paying for. Here Is t ie VI-
nol formula. When the doctor knows
what a medicine contains. It c ; ases

Any doctor will tell you that th
ingredients of Vinol, as named above,
will enrich the blood and banish
anaemia and create strength. When
the blood is pure and rich and red,
the body is strong and robust.
You can prove this at our expens

IS THE-TREND OF POWER II* GAS, AND /
STEADILY UPWARD GO THE RESULTS FROM -
THI^ GREAT CHALMERS ENGINE
That gas isj dropping steadily in power is no longer
a matter of news. But while the decline is on (and many
think we will Aever see again a high grade gas) here comes
the master of the situation.
It is the great Chalmers engine and its chief function
is making poor gas deliver high power.
It breaks up to an unprecedented degree the raw gas
coming from the carburetor, “cracks it up” as the .engineers
say, and then heats it to a high point before the spark
plugs set it off.
One device that does most of this important work is the
now famous Chalmers “hot spot.” The second is the in
genious “ram’s-horn” manifold.
So thoroughly does the great Chalmers engine Fletcherize
and Hooverize the gas that there’s scarcely a particle of
wasteds power.
Tests of the exhaust have proved that.
And so fluid or liquid is this power that it fairly charms
the driver. You can get violent action in an instant or you
1 can “tame it to almost nothing.” And whether calling on
it for much or little it has a peculiar note of softness about
it that always denotes a superior piece of mechanism.

Be Careful
Think of the cost of replacing
your house at the present prices
of m,iLeri^jl $nd^tabor,; should it
be burned. ’ Consider the waste
of time if you ui*l; lai^l jip for
weeks from carelessness in driv*
in* your machine.
. Bear in mind the needless suf
fering that a careless chauffer
may cause by speeding or pass
ing standing cars.
Look out for the street car. It
is impossible for it to turn out
when you run in front of it.
