MOST IMPORTANT DAY OF ALL
WITH PEACE CONFERENCE YESTERDAY
(By Associated Press.)
Paris, April 26.—Council of three,
comprising Premiers Lloyd George,
Clemenceau and President Wilson
today concluded consideration of re
ports on ports and waterways and re
port of financial commission, all of
which were approved. Italian and
Japanese questions were not consid
ered. This has been one of the most
anxious days of the peace conter-
ence. With all eyes toward Rome,
while work proceeded on final details
of treaty, the absorbing topic every
where was the Italian Issue and the
offect it had in store for conference.
Brief information reaching official
ouarlers showed the situation at
Rome very tense with anti-American
sentiment high. Departure of Baron
Fonnino, Signor Salandra, this af
ternoon, left only subordinates of Ital
ian delegation who are without power
of action. Meantime it can be stat-
that President Wilson’s copy of
the Italian declaration bears the ini
tials of Clemenceau and Lloyd Georgo
< presenting front of the principal
great powers.
Paris, April 26.—The council of
three today approved for insertion in
the peace treaty, an article assuring
the right of aerial transit over enemy
territory after conclusion of peace
end also approved articles concerning
the disposition of enemy property in
former German colonies and regard
ing the disposition of German pris
oners.
The French premier affixed his Big
nature last Monday and gave his ap
proval for its publication Tuesday,
but President Wilson delayed its is
suance until Wednesday. Besides this
initial approval of British and French
premiers, another written document
exists which was prepared Hhmedl
ately after the issuance of the presi
dent’s statement, which Is a view ex
pressing approval and support from
the highest British official quarters.
This is not from Lloyd George, but
one who is able to speak the authorl
ty on foreign affairs. It is believed
to relate chiefly to Flume, examining
the question at length, and conclud
ing against the Italian position and
supporting the president.
Charlottesville, Va., April 26.—Vir
ginia defeated Georgia today in a fast
game by a score of 3 to 0. Philpot
pitched good ball except in the third
Inning when an error, a walk and two
hits with two down netted three runs.

a pretty game, giving up six hits.
After the third Philpot had things his

New York, April 26.—Samuel Gomp-,.
ers, president of the American Fed
eration of Labor, assailed Postmaster
General Burleson’s administration in
a statement here today, declaring be
niutrt "walk the plank sooner o**
later.” Burleson needs only a wider
field and better opportunity to fit him
for succession to some of the world’s
best known but unlamented ex-dicta
tors, Gompers. declared.
Gompers charged Postmaster Gen
eral Burleson with carrying out "ail
archaic autocratic policy in the con-
dust of the postal, telegraph and tele
phone services of the United States."
Burleson’s troubles which he attri
buted to a plot or conspiracy by Ame
rican publishers are not due solely to
any dispute there may have been be
tween Burleson and the publishers,
Gompers asserted, and added that la
bor was long ago forced to the con
clusion that Burleson was completely
out of sympathy with the trend of
American thought, and totally unable
to comprehend what America meant
when it declared war unon autocracy
everywhere.
