One of the brightest of the
week’s social events was the beau
tiful farewell party given by Mr.
and Mrs. R. A. Whitten in honor
of Miss Gladys Pass, who leaves
at an early date for Buckhea<J to
make her home.

Nix Elected Worshipful
Master.
The new Masonic hall in the old
Majestic hotel, recently completed,
was dedicated Thursday evenjng
with an appropriate program, and
addresses by leading Masons both
of Athens, and from other Georgia
cities. Following the dedication ex
ercises, an election was held In
which Colonel Abit Nix, prominent
Athens lawyer, was elected Wor
shipful master of the Athens lodge.
Dr. Joseph P. Bowden, grand
master of the grand lodge of Geor
gia, was one of those making ad
dresses at the dedicatory services.
Dr. J. C. Wilkinson, pastor of the
First Baptist church of Athens,
and Dr. J. C. Bennett of Jefferson
also participated in the program
Morris orchestra furnished music
throughout the evening, and accord
ing to Masons interviewed Friday,
it added greatly to the delightful
ness of the evening. The newr Ma
sonic hall is one of the most beau
tiful in the state, and Masons all
over Athens can bo heard boasting
of their new’ temple.
Colonel Nix was elected worship
ful master Thursday evening to fill
the unexpirpd term of Dr. C. N,
Sisk who recently moved to Win
ston Salem, North Carolina.

Collapses.
ALBANY, Ga.—A. W. Muse, 73
years old, leading cotton ware
houseman of this city and vice-
president of two local banks, died
suddenly Friday morning at the
wheel of his automobile while
driving along a crowded block of
a downtown street.
Passersby saw hint collapse and
slip down under the wheel, and as
he did so, the car swerved to one
side and crashed into the rear of
another automobile standing at
the curb. He was rushed to the
