‘ CITY GARAQE »
We should do all and everything possible to not, only
attract, new citizens to Athens but to capture'every eon.
vention possible and encourage motorists and tourists to
pass through our city. It matter's not Rbw short a time
a person stops pver, ninety-nine out of every hundred
will spend more or less money and thus help trade. Our
people have ever been noted for their hospitality, and
there is no better way to exercise this characteristic
than to shoW strangers within our gates that they are
Welcome, by giving them' a passing smile or friendly
greeting. A stranger’s Impressions of a place are gen
erally formed by the treatment ne receives from those
he meets. We have every attraction here to induce
tourists and visitors to tarry among us. Athens.is the
greatest southern educational center; we have a delight
ful climate, and the purest water; we have splendidly
paved streets and fine drives pver and around the city;
and _ we have beautiful residences, imposing public build
ings, and nlany points of historic interest to show
strangers. Here are seen the homes of Hill, Grady, the
Cobbs, Lumpkins and other names allied with the his
tory of our state and nation. Wo are proud of Athens
and nothing dSlights our citizens more'-than to show
stranger* what we hays.

Athens is fast developing into a prominent wholesale
and jobbing center, and-we ought to press this branch
of our trade. With our' advantage in eastern freight
rates an<( the fine towns tributary to our city, there is no
reasgn why Athens should not become one of the best
jobbing centers in Georgia. Our retail business Is es
tablished and is constantly on the increase. Now, with
good highways radiating out in every direction, we
should pass all. old boundaries and invade and conquer
fresh territory. And we must never neglect an oppor
tunity to Advertise our city, and let the outside world
know what we. have in the way of an educational center,
a business center,*a manufacturing center, and as one
of the healthiest and molt delightful places of residence
in our 'beautiful southland. We must never weary of
well doing, but' continue to add attractions to our city.
We must by all means have that white way, and it would
be better to have two, one on Broad street and the other
on Clayton street. Of course we need a park, and let
us back Mr. Carroll in getting up a fair for next fall.
"Nothing is too igood for Athens and we must always
insist, on the best. Count ti* in on whatever can help
Athens.
