Congressman Upshaw who has
been In Atlanta for tho holidays
said be waa surprised that his
speech attracted nation ’idj at
tention.
“It was a very innocent and a
very houcst little speech, only 13
minutes long” said the Georgia
Congressmen to tije correspondent
of this newspaper. "Frankly, while*
1 knew It ought to he said, 1 did
not know that such a brief, suae
declaration would create a nation
al sensation. But it muBt be noted
that amid ail tho blazing head
lines in news and editorial columns
of metropolitan dallies, r. jody
has dared to deny the liutn of
what baa boon said.
“It seemed such an utter t .trea

rious business. If It were your hey

my two little girls some day, we
could measure tho compass of the
crime. Some mother’s boy goes

Every good citizen ondoryses my

"Prohibition advocates here
point to the fact that Congressman
Upshaw has called attention to a
live issue, and It is up to the peo
ple at largo to sue that the cff|.
ciala who make laws and those
who have charge ot their enforce
ment also obey and respect t’je
laws.
