might literally be called the hare-

Mack is now in the thick of the
fight to give Philadelphia another
pennant winner. He seems to be
on the way. . .
Mack, aside from developing re
cruits into stars for his own team
has. kept a number of other clrbs

ery club in the American league
has a former Athletic player on its
payroll. In every case, Mack had a
definite reason for the disposal of
the different players.
Here Is a bunch of players who
formerly starred for Mack, now
members of various American
league clubs. This aggregation
would be able to hold Its own in
the American league race:

Athens High School Basketeers
Open 1923 Season With Decisive
Victory Over Madison Quintet
(By Hal. G. Jackson.)
Exhibiting a brand of brilliant basketball that
was not to be denied the Athens High lads swept
away the Madison High crew last night by the count
of 45 to 18. In justice to the visitors we .must say that
they appealed off form and only their real form whs
displayed in eratic flashes. While they seemed off
form still the fine all-round work of the Red and
White quintet justly deserved a decisive victory.
Coach Charlie Wichrs, the. boys’ WALTER FORBES
PLAYS WELL
mentcr, was highly pleased by the
showing made by ihs, proteges.
His lads plainly showed the ef
fects of his good work. His lads
covered the floor like a bunch of
eagle-eyed demon's.
The fracas started with a spurt
by the Madison lads which gave
them a temporary lead of four
points. This Ipau was soon over
come by a brace of baskets by
Forbes the local’s great center. At
the half the Madison boys were
trailing by seven points. The vis
itors played some fine ball in this
period but hard luck on their shots
accounted for their beinglbehind.
