The charm of Reginald De- Koven’s music is as fresh today as when it was first enjoyed 25 years ago, and the dialogue of Harry B. Smith is as sparkling now cs il was then. Like fine old wine, “Robin Hood" seems to Im prove with aige. It has stood the acid test of time because it is a real work of art, uni the genius which inspired it should 'gratify the pride of every American. Nothing could be more fascinat ing than vhe story upon which the opera was founded. The old Eng lish tale of Robin Hoqd and his bend of outlaws is a famous one and their merry pranks in Sher wood Forest have furnished Sir Walter Scott and other writers with stories that will live as long as our language. Around this cele brated theme was buili the delight ful opera by DcKoken and Smith, and in its musical form they have given us a new pleasure that adds zest to the story of the greatest of England’s popular heroes. “Robin Hood” was by no means an imaginary character. He real ly existed, and his romantic ad- I venhires happened during the, Sloan’s Liniment ’-kills pain!
