Sarah, Bernhardt the woman was a greater character

actress. ■ Years from now her name will be spoken as
we of today refer to Lotta, $ooth and other theatrical
stars Of long ago. An.d at that future day, when
young people ask you about the .Divine Sarah, the
indelible impression that will come to you first will
be the way she battled to keep alive. Time _ after
time, for months, the greatest medical specialists of
Europe “gave her up.’’i But Behihardt fought on.
Her refusal to die, her tenacious clinging to life by
sheer determination, was a' rare example of the pow

The road ‘bphd issue situation in Virginia seems to
be about this: by fin'act of the Virginia * legislatore',
the pfeople of that'Btate will be allowed to vote on
the question of a bond issue of $50,000;000 for high

Bonds are carried, they will, be issued in live annual

X-rays revealed the existence of helium, thalium, haf

our age of scientific magic, the X-rays—not radio—
unquestionably stands out as the most uncanny inven

Hugo Stinnes has been in Rome, conferring with
business leaders of other nations. They have in mind,
first, a settlement of the Rhineland dispute between
Germany and France. After that, a general program
for the reconstruction of Europe. The politicians
don’t seem tolbe able to get anywhere in that direc
tion. As previously predicted in this paper, it’ll wind
up with business men taking charge of the mess.
That’s logical. Big business, by trade rivalries, starts
wars. It should help unscramble the eggs. Compe
tition in foreign trade was the real cause of the World
War. Once under way, its purpose shifted several
times.
