GEORGIA PEACHES NOW THE TOP-NOTCHERS Th$ Georgia peach season is at the zenith of its gloryiand all Georgians should smack their iips over the (Jblicious fruit which Providence has given them the great privilege of enjoying. He has oecn especially kindflo Georgians in that he has blest them with:tne soil that grows the finest peaches under the suit. ■ If ever*; Georgian ate his share of peaches every day theri; would be none left to ship. But we should ship a large portion of the crop to 1 brini new money into the state but there are plenty • of ofir-ripe and left-overs from shipping; while they are lie best kind for the homefolks, will not do for shipping. These should supply the nearby markets or they should be canned or preserved. Care should be tMcen, that none of this food is allowed to go th waste while there may be many Georgians hungry for Caches. ,, , ' . Macpn Telegraph points out that Sherman in jk of valuer of foods lays great stress on the ients that enter into the composition of Georgia The following extract is taken from that his ingri peaci bi ook: "Peaches are higher thnn whole milk in potassium and iron and practically as rich as spinach in iron. They are higher than whole milk in ealejum and con tain ..the same amount of magnesium. They beat orarfges for sodium and phosphorus. They are -clashed with foods high in'mineral saltt and they are base forming in the body, though they are un atid fruit’ They contain vitamlnes of all'classes, the lie- | ments absolutely essential to life and good health”. Not many peaches for commercial purposes an* grown in this immediate section but with the tadvent of the boll weevil and the success those who haye ven tured be more will'becoi.— - ——, , In the meantime Georgia peaches continue ttf dom inate, the market, and there is none more luscious, and more delicious and more sought after. ’ The Georgia peach certainly has no equa). . . he boll weevil and the success those who naye veil 'd Into peach growing have met with there will more trees set out and this section, as it should', ] become a peach growing center, r '• f J : f ATHENS MUST BROADEN ITS MARKETING FACILITIES. Fir years Athens has provided exceptional mar keting facilities for the handling of the cotton crop. This has included advances to make the crop, to store and the warehouse and finance and to finally sell the cotton. Some similar arrangement must be made in the near future to handle other crops than cotton. Already a beginning is being made along these lines, largest in the South. To peas should be added Vnarket largest in the South To peas should be added market facilities for velvet beans, soy beans,,peanuts, hay andecom. This means grain elevators and milling facilities and as a corollary of such crops, Athens must' provide market facilities for dairying, livestock, hogs and poultry. Athens’ modern and up to" date creameries already afford a market for cream, and Athens’ local market posalbly is able foy the present to take care of all the poultry now.raised In this im mediate territory, but the time is coming with tjie in creased raising of poultry, when market arrange ments must be made to take care of the surplus and ship to out8ide points. The same is true in regard to livestock.and hogs. Local markets may bo able to take care of these pro ducts raised in this immediate section for a time but with an increase in production in this section that is inevitable, packing plants and marketing and shipping facilities must be provided. In a very short time, car loads of poultry and hogs and cattle will be coming to or through Athens seeking for a market, and the business interests of Athens will overlook a bet for their own good and, for the good of the city if ade quate and modern and proper marketing facilities are'not available for all these products. < A COURTEOUS REMINDER May we call to your attention What we usually mention In our verces at this season of the year. And respectfully remind you that he brings. As he flits upon the breezes, Multifarious diseases • ‘Which he bears upon his feet and on his wings? Would you mind If we suggested That the fly should be detested. That he really isn't nice to hav about? Ttyit in fact.
