Thoughts For The Day ' Yot a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: so shall thy pov erty come as one that traveleth; and thy want as an armed man.—Prov. 24:33, 34. “ Idleness travels very slowly, and poverty soon overtakes her.—Hunter. GET TOGETHER AND DO IT The Athens spirit has never failed on any project on whic'n its citizens have gotton together and given the movement their hearty ' co-operation and ap proval. There is not a community on the face of the globe blessed with more enterprising and progress ive citizens than Athens. A movement is now under way sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce that 1 should appeal to every merchant, business man and banker in the community. It is “Trade Month" to ' he inaugurated and continued through the month of November. A list of valuable premiums are being * offered for the benefit of those who trade with the Athens merchants. It is not a catch-penny game nor is ifjieing introduced by some itenerant who re ceives a commission or a guarantee from the business concerns, but it is a project bern of the local busi ness men and an enterprise of merit and worth to every line of commerce in Athens. In order to' make the movement a success it will require hearty co operation on the part of every merchant and busi ness man. This is no time for drones, everyone must be live, active and alert to the opportunities which are afforded for increased business and for the mak ing of many new customers who have traded else where in the past It is an opportunity to create an interest in Athens and place its . many advantages before the people of this section of the state, commercially and educationally. With greatly increased crops over those of last year the brightest day of proseprity is now dawning on Ath- i ens and it is purely a question of whether our busi- 1 ness men will accept the opportunity and work for, i the business which naturally belong to this- city or' let the trade go where it is being urged to come. . Early Tuesday morning the various committees for the "Trade Month” project met at the rooms of the v Chamber of Commerce, organized and with much enthusiasri commenced their .rounds from store to store seeking the co-operation and support of the business men. With such determination as displayed 1 by the committees there is no question about the success of the project. Feature sale days each week - will bo held during the month. During the first week will-be held a "Community Dollar, Day” sale in which all merchants will'participate offering unusual bar- T gains for ONE DOLLAR. Every dollar’s worth of merchandise purchased will entitle the purchaser to a ticket for the premiums nnd the merchant who is I not in the “Trade Month” organization will be the i onii to lose business. The project is a splendid "business getter” and it may be expected that the merchants will reap a harvest during the month and experience tho largest trade they have ever had during any one month of their business career. Seek the committees and enter into the proper spirit of the movement and contribute your part to wards an undertaking which will mean much for the revival of business and for the return of pros perity. . VALUE OF COTTON CROP INCREASED During the past eix weeks the advance in the price t of cotton has been worth millions of dollars to the cotton growers of the south. The advance has 1 amounted to more than $25 a bale and from all indi cations a steady advance may be expected due large- “the short American crop and the small surplus ght over from last season, together With the general improved business conditions. Every bale of cotton is an asset to the country ami every owner of a bale of cotton should place it MMt it will add its value to increasing the commer cial assets of tho communities in which it is grown. ' The facilities offered by the warehouses here and the strong financial condition of the various banking 5^ IS St Rations insures the farmer that his cotton is ab solutely safe and that the highest market price paid in :my city or town in the country is being paid by the cotton buyers of this city. ' Athens is the sixth largest inland cotton market in tho United States and its railroad,' financial and warehouse facilities gives to it an advantage over other inland cotton points. Besides large compress plants in this city, can take care of all the export cotton in this section of the state. An ideal location for a great center in handling the world’s greatest product, Athens offers every inducement and advan tage; to the cottqn growers in this section to market their cotton here. .The proposed trade month for November Is rap- Jdlv’pushing forward and the merchant who is left t -will be the one who will suffer. Several thousand dollars in premiums will be ■ given away during trade month in Athens. Every line of business should co-operate in the movement d make of the enterprise one grand success. big feature for the firet week during trade month will be “Dollar Day” at which, time every mer chant in Athens will have special offerings and special bargains which can be bought for one dollar. ■jL&.iiatl-A-’At:./.-1 l 5S*g esMka MOUSAND DOW* 5 9 fcVER7y SO* 5 UPVO The ^Athletics, of Philadelphia (DR WHITE SPEAKS 1L “Personal Serq'ce" was the topic of Dr. John E.
