Tlio News-Reporter in Washington, Wilkes coun

- we have ever seen. It contains 48 pages and is de
voted to the industrial interests of that community.
Filled with articles of interest, historical, commer
cial and agricultural it beams with interest and
sparkles with the resources which is possessed by
that county. Editors Bruner and Barksdale are to
be congratulated on their enterprise and the people
of Wilkes county will reap wonderful benefits from

* ; ANNUAL FOOTBALL GAME IN AUGUSTA-
■ The alumni of the University of Georgia and citi-
zefls of Augusta are greatly interested in securing a
game in that city for next year. A- meeting of the
alumni will be held on Monday evening at which
tinje a dinner will be given to which Dr. S. V- San
ford and Coach George Woodruff have been invited.
It & understood that these gentlemen will be present
and discuss the probability of such a game between
some team from South Carolina and the Georgia
The Augusta Herald in speaking of the proposed
game has this to say of the movement:
I At a rough guess we would say that todayi
there arc from 75 to 100 football teams playing
Ihc game in Georgia, and wjth hardly a less
- pumber in South Carolina, this of course includes
prep and high school teams ih both states.
Among the college teams in Georgia that are
making this Benson good records may be men-
• tioned, The University of Georgia, Tech, Mer
cer, and Oglethorpe. In South Carolina, Pur-
man, Clemson, Wofford, and the Citadel at
Charleston.
j Augusta would furnish an ideal, convenient
. ami neutral location for the staging of many of
these annual football games between the college
teams of the two states of Georgia and South
Carolina. There was a time when Princeton
.land Yale used to stage their annual football
game at the Polo Grounds In New York—about
half way between the two institutions.
Augusta is centrally located, accessable in every
■way, enjoying splendid highways from both Caro-
tin A knd Georgia besides having ample railroad fa
cilities from all points in the south. We believe
that a gamo played in Augusta would prove a finan
cial success and it is to be hoped that the authorities
of the athletic association of the University of
Georgia, can arrange their schedule so as’to give to
Augusta an annual football gamo
Ai THE BROAD STREET BOND ISSUE
The action of the Chamber of Commerce in spon
soring the.election for bonda for paving Broad street
from Lumpkin street to Milledge avenue is one of the
most, important pieces of constructive improvement
inaugurated in this city in years. The widening and
paving of this street will relieve the dangerous condi
tion existing on Milledge avenue and Hill street, and
on 1’rince avenue, which passes through the school
zone where thousands of children are forced to pas*
daily. Besides it opens a street from Milledge avenue
which shortens the distance to the business district at
least one mile for those living beyond Broad street on
Milledge avenue and those coming to Athens from
Walton, Greene, Morgan and Oconee counties. It
dev- lops a property which will he enhanced in value
i sufficient to pay the siiikir.g fund for the-retirement
of tlie bonds, as they fall due. It will get rid of that
undesirabe section on Broad street and make of it
one of the most desirable residential sections in the
tty.
Tlie people of Athens cannot afford to allow the
bond election to fail- There is too much at stake and
every citizen with the interest of the upbuilding of
! Athens at heart should rally to the support of the
bond election and give it his time and energies and
every resource for a successful culmination of the
bond Issue.
' The property owners along the street affected have
shown a most magnificent spirit and their contribu
tion of land sufficient to widen the street has been
M|ost generous and without the least bickering. Now,
His up to the voters to cast their ballots in favor of
bond issue and this city will enjoy one of the
greatest and most needed improvements the city has
ever had.
Wednesday, December the fifth is election day. Be
in Athens and cast your ballots for bonds and pros
