Thoughts For The Day
iSr
, : WILL YOU DO YOUR PART?
Thq-people of Athens will be called upon Mon-
' day to show their interest and loyalty in the cam*
paigiafor the eradication of the treacherous disease
—tuberculosis. Devoted men and women to the
: i cause: will give their time and cnegries to the sale of
■ Christmas anti-tubercular seals. Every penny of this
money will be used in paying the expense of conduct
ing the fight against tuberculosis In this city and
t-eouniy- It Is a case of alarming magnitude and one
In which every family and every citisftn in the com
munity should be interested. This dangerous dis
ease may enter your home first, your wife or your
child may be the victim. Your purchases of seals
- will help to prevent the spread of the disease and it
will help to foster and support an organization
which! is being used for the specific purpose of
stamping out nnd eliminating the ravages of the most
dreadful disease mankind has to contend with.
The! local committees are in earnest in the work
with which they have associated themselves and it
is for, the good of all citizens alike which has
prompted them to undertake the task of disposing
of 6ver three thousand dollars worth of seals.
EverjCpicce of mail matter sent out from this time
until «ie holiday season is over should carry stamped
on it a seal showing that you are in sympathy with
the movement and that you are doing your part to
wards eliminating the terrorizing disease.
Tht*T>urchase of these stamps or seals is one of the
test investments you can make. Every dollar in
vested will pay handsome divdends in the saving of
lives and the saving of many from sickness and de-
jon of all that may be hoped for in this life,
pur duty and it is an obligation which you owe
Irsclf and to your fellow man to buy these
ind help promote the cause for which the sale
jided.
Ask for Christmas anti-tubercular seals and see to
it that, every piece of mail matter bears ■
upon it before mailing-
HOME FOR GIRLS
• t The movement inaugurated by the Episcopal
in this state to build a home for girls in
is a timely and deserving cause. It is pro
nto care for orphan girls and provide for them
io and an education. There they will be cared
for wtyh as much interest as they would in their own
homes and every opportunity will be given them to
make'of themselves women of the future to help
f direct the destinies of the country and of the church.
•rJBvwy Episcopalian in this diocese should respond
to tile, call and aid in providing a sufficient fund for
the completion of this much needed building. Many
orphan children without homes or friends are ap
pealing for help and looking to the good people of
tjiat church to provide a way and a home for them
to reach thBt stage in iife where they will be pre
pared; to care for themselves and become independ
ent and resourceful.
The offerings in many churches on Thanksgiving
Day. no doubt, realized a considerable sum with
which'to further this cause and it ia hoped that no
delay-may be experienced in bringing to a comple
tion the proposed home for orphan girls.

S HANGED CONDITIONS OF FARMING
cotton flirting with 35 cents, there can be no
doubt^as to the returning interest in farming. This
will create greater farm values and a better demand
for a higher grade of labor. Tractors, binders, gang
piowdr disc harrows, and all labor saving imple-.
ments-will be largely substituted for hand labor and
Improved methods will prevail where formerly
slouchy and slipshod lack of system was the usual
way of doing things. • •
Thi" porch farmer is one individual that will be
dispensed with under the new order of things! A
man cannot be expected to sit ail day in the shade
and iB the cool of the evening sally forth to ,tell his
hands how they should have done a particular
piece >f work. The intensive plan which will be
pursued in the future requires that the head of the
affairs devote his entire time and attention -to the
operations going on. He must make every edge
cut, and if he has an expensive machine that saves
the wprk of a number of laborers, it may not do to
entrust it to an inexperienced hand. He can assure
its cafeful and correct operation by being its own
operator.
Wo were talking with a North Carolinian the
othor_day who appeared to be a man of affairs and
a practical man. He remarked that the tremendous
prosperity of North Carolina was largely the result
of small farms. He said there were no immense
plantations in his state pnd everybody worked.
They .farmed there on the intensive plan, and while
* the sdil was not naturally so productive as the soil
in Georgia, that it was worked better, fertilized
better and produced more.
