Sheriff Collier arrived In Athens about 11 o’clock Monday morning and Immediately began a search for evidence here that would show that the Ill-fated pair arrived on the Gainesville Midland train that came In Saturday at f:lt p. m ten minutes late. Taxicab drivers and others who are usually around the depot could give no Information while tht conductor of the train was not cer* tain that he hauled such passen* The sheriff, however, met with better success when he talked Mrs. Haskell Porter, daughter Sheriff Crow of Hall county, over the telephone. Mrs. Porter came to Athens on the O.-M train to vtftt friends here and told the sheriff that she distinctly remembered the two gttelnjr on the train at Jefferson and then getting off at Athensi. The description she gave correspoded with the pair, the little girl being easily identified on account of having a halrllp, a fact that Mrs. Porter recalled. Other additional Information was gathered by Sheriff Collier when a long distance telephone call from Jefferson said that an employee of the factory there waa at th« depot here and saw the oouple yet In a closed taxi. This Informant haa been sumn here for the purpose of Identifying, If possible, the driver of the car.
