Thoughts For The Day
r The teed of evil doer, shall never be re
nowned.—lea. 14:20.
Those who provide much wealth for their child
ren, hilt neglects to improve them in virtue, do like
those ,who feed their horses high, but never train
them to the menage.—Scrates.
TOMORROW IS. CHRIST’S BIRTHDAY
' The day of all days—which everyone with holy
revereiice should observe in remembrance of Christ,
horn of a pure virgin “who liveth and reigneth with
thee and the same Spirit ever, one God, world with
out end."49 .
Frivolity and desecrations should be set aside and
the day given over to the proper observance and in
remembrance of the Almighty God. Every church
house in the community should open its doors and
offer an opportunity to those who may desire to wor
ship, to give thanks to the Holy Maker for the many
blessings received throughout the year.
The Banner-Herald, in common with the custom of
the community, will print no edition Tuesday. For
the liberal patronage received during the year it ex
presses its best wishes to each and everyone of the
entire populace—a Christmas of blessings and a
happy and prosperous new year.

YOU CAN’T AFFORD TIME PRICES
, In this day and time the merchant as well as the
— people are coming to a cash basis. There is too much
j risk for the merchant to continue in the old rut of
' soiling on time and carrying the farmer until the
1 following fall-for payment. Regardless of how safe
‘ the account may appear there is danger in losing
' the responsibility rerts solely upon the merchant
l .without recourse. Then again, the farmer cannot af
ford to pay time prices. With the high cost of pro-
glueing a crop and the expense of fighting the boll
‘weevil, the production of cotton must be cut matorial-
. ly and the farmer who undertakes to operate a farm
on time prices is bound to come out loser at the end
of the year.
• t Under the system of diversification, the farmer
| should be able to produce enough vegetables, poul
try, milk, eggs, butter, hogs and cattle to defray all
expenses of his crop during the course of making.
.. Unless the farmer gets on a cash basis it will be im-
. possible for him to ever recover and get his busi
ness on a sound nnd stable basis. It is for the mutual
1 benefit of both the farmer and merchant to go on a
■ rash basis/nml adopt an economical system for liv-
•'«ding expenses. -Try it out the.coming year and this
’’country will be the most prosperous of all sections
“and every line of commerce and agriculture will be
come safe, sane and substantial.

TO TEAR DOWN AMERICAN INSTITUTIONS
‘ There seems to be a well defined plan inaugurated
throughout Russia Tor the purpose of broadcasting
propoganda for the avowed purpose of tearing down
this country and setting up a now form of govem-
,pient born of bolshevism and anarchism. The head
quarters for this organization is located in Moscow
■jjfidwles of literature is being circulated in America.
|i||||^Bder.stood that there are many good men and
HBi who have been mislead into the cause of dis
seminating the literature believing it to be anti-war
matter and intended for the purpose of wiping out
•tor all time to come any possibility of another war.
i-Th is is not the case, however, but it is an effort on the
'Viart of the Russian government to build up a senti
ment in favor-of disarming AmericA so when that has
been accomplished; Russia would be prepared to
v dictate terms of any character to this country,
n Recently Secretary Hughes informed the Russian
foreign minister that this country could hold on ne
gotiations with Russia until propoganda against
American institutions had been abandoned. This
laction ;pn the part of Secretary Hughes is proof posi
tive of the movement growing to be dangerous to
this country and building a sentiment which is against
•■every interest of the United States. Such a 'scheme
lhas been in process for some time and it is now be
coming generally known throughout this country.
4t is said that army officers have been aware of the
propoganda and that advices from them have been
received by the officials in Washington calling their
: attention to the danger lurking in this organization
• which on its face indicates that it is for the good
k)f all countries.
rt (Sovietism is born of enimity to all that is good and,
iff its purposes were carried out, the churches, educa
tion, freedom and the home would be destroyed.
llCfore America should agree to disarm or even con-
Wtfer such a move, every nation should be required
gol not' only disarm but enter into an agreement that
ao preparation could ever be made to resume arms
trfthout first having the sanction of America. This
country has too much at stake to enter into the J.Tos-
:©W plan for a Soviet government and those Aniori-
(?M* who are associated with the movement should
withdraw their names and support from the cam
paign which is now being conducted for no other
pOiEfce Uuui for the destruction of our institutions.
