tor cf vocational education, ia part

Vocational Agricultural Series be
ing published by the Turner E.

Chapman is also the huthor of
"rromotin.j; Vocational Education
in Agriculture”, a pnmplct just
isued by the Federal Board for
Vocational Education.
The vocational Agricultural Se
ries, of which "Farm Crops” ia
one of the first, ia designed pri

throughout Southern State. These rea, » >ct ,t .’ ntrod
tents present technical informa
tion In an attractive way, and
are developed in keeping with
methods recommended for the
teaching r.f vocational agriculture.
Mr. Chapman was led to the
writing of ‘Farm Crops” by the
absence of any satisfactory text.
He says that most of the texts
available fpr Southern schools
were written by Northern and
Western men , who did nut
throughly understand condition in
this part of the country, and con
sequently whose texts were no*,
perfectly adapted to this part of
the country. Indicative the field
for agricultural text-book written
has a certain indescribable charm
aout it. Miss Atherton knows how
to write; her delineation of char
acters is clever throughout' the
story.
The author undertook a big
task when sh* introduced Into her
novel so many important charact
ers, but she seems to have suc
ceeded in her task, for each of the
characters is well nortrayed and
carried out throughly to the end
There is no confusing of charac
ters as is so common in other
books which have more than two
or three characters of importance.
The theme of the story is un-
al, yet it introduces new ideas
of mauied life which are too com
plex to discuss. One must read the
book to get a clear idea of them.
Beyond the gift, of style, Miss
Atherton knows how to observe,
and describe things In an In
teresting manner. Yet taking the
book as a whole. It Is no great
contribution to literature, just
light reading.
