In 1881, following the death of
his first wife, Capt. Cobb married
Miss Matie Lamar Bivins of
Americas. Their children are:
George C. C:bb, Lamar Cobb, Eld-
ridge Ccbb, Harper Cobb, Eliza
beth Cobb and Martha Cobb.
The town of Cobb in the south
eastern part of Sumter county
was named for Capt. Cobb.
In rceerit years. Capt. Cobb de
voted much of his time to mat
ters for the benefit cf Confederate
veterans.

Captain Murphy was one of the !
outstanding men of the section of \
which Bamesvllle was the center. ’
His life was remarkable in many j
respects and throughout his rest- j
dence in Barnesville where he oc- I
cupled many positions of honor j
and rsefulness he held the esteem '
and the love of its people. ;
Captain Murphy served in the j
Confederate Army in the War Be j
tween the States going out with
the HoToway Grefs. He was Cap- (
tain and Adjutant of his regiment
in the war. Later he organized the
Barnesville Militia and served as
Its captain and this company be
came famous as one of the crack
military units In tho state. He
served as Justice of the Peace in
the Barnesville district for many
years and held the office at the
time of his death. He served con
currently with presidents from
Grover Cleveland to President Coo-
lidge. He a'so served the city as
Mayor and for practically all his '
life was a trustee of Gordon In
stitute at Rarnesvllie.
Captain iMorphy was a man of
str’king appearance and gracious
demeanor. He was one of those
virile, courtly men for which the
Old South was famous and his
going wl'l be a irreat loss.
