The following proclamation.was burned by Mayor A. G. Dudley
Wednesday morning:
As mayor of the dty of Athena, I wish lo take this opportu
nity to officially extend a warm and cArdift welcome to the
city of the hundreds of basketball players and the thousands of
their towns people who will cWme to Athens today and on TTiura-
day. Friday and Saturdpy for the fifth annual basketball tour
nament. sponsored by the Athena Y% M. C. A. and the Athens
Iianrcr-IIerald. . .
I feel that the tournament ft doing unteld good, not only in
advurfising Athens throughout northeast Georgir and (hi- state,
hut throughout the nation, as this tournament is the largest of
Its kind ever held in the Uniiqd-Statee.
In promoting these tournaments the Y. M. C. A. and Banner-
Hcraid ore dc.ng a great go«Ki as it Kpreada and develops the
game cf basketball, under clean and whp^omc surroundings in
this srtion of the state.
Therefore, I, as mayor of the city, extend a warm welcome to
cur visiting friends and hope that their stay here will be one of
unbroken pleasure and I urge all citizens to attend the game*
and support the tournament to their utmost at the same time

The first meeting of the workers in the Y. W. C.
A. drive was he!d at the gymnasium Tuesday night
and was attended by a large and enthusiastic group
of men and women. Members of the girls reserve
