Mellett, Canton publisher, be gan n search for now . evidence Tuesday as the story of Steve Kascholk, mystery witness, held in county jail, showed possible weak ness. Kascholk gave himself up soon after the murder and told of be ing hired with Pat MdDermott for whom a nation-wdie search is un derway, to "beat up” Mellett, naming their employers. He with drew the Inst minute, he said, but McDermott remained in Canton until after the murder. Hen Rudner, Massiion, and Carl Studer, Canton, accused by Kas cholk of plotting underworld re venge against Mellett, have volun tarily furnished alibis. Both denied acquaintance with cither Kascholk or McDermott. While every angle of Kascholk's statement was investigated and the search for McDermott contin ued, thc citizens’ committee, ap pointed to straighten out Canton’s political tanglfc, held another secret meeting.
