Ocean Air Service
Is Still Far Away
WARNEMUENDE, Germany., —
(#)—Seaworthy airplanes and reg
ular tr#ns-Atlantic air service
were deseribed as distant Utopias
by Dr. Ernest Heinkel, the famous
airplane bu‘lder.
In an interview {lowing the iri
al flights of two biplanes intended
for arctic exploration which the
Swed'sh government had commis
sioned the Heinkel works to build
Dr. Heinkel sa'd:
“If people imagine that they will
be able in a few yeaFs to fly the
Atfanitc in a cozy cab’n of a
large airplane they are laboring
under a delusion.”
A fairly safe and comfortable
passenger service across the ocean
he said, would require machines
with at least e'ght motors aggre
gating 5,000 HP to enable the pilot
to continue the flight with five
motors'in the event of three motors
becoming disabled en route. g
Constructing planes w'th eight
motors, however, Dr. Heinkel con
sidered impracticable for the time
being in view of the inability to
stow a sufficient quantity of fuel
for them.
The only hope for realization
of a regular transoceanic passeng
er service, this expert believes, is
in the possible construction of a
motor that is infallible, which the
present devalopments in the tech
nic of motor building, he thought
might justify one to expect in
ahout five years.

BUENOS AIRES.—(AP)—The
announcement by several F.uro-‘
pean steamship companies of in
creased service to Argentina has
focussed attention. on the fact
that the United States has not
kept pace in the development of
her South American shipping fa
cilities.
Argentine business circles ex
pressed satisfaction over indica
tions of a far-sighted program in.
Europe of building bigger liners
for the Brazilian-Argentine route.
A Canadian service from the St.
Lawrence to Buenos Aires has
also been announced for the near
future.
The Nelson Line now has on
the ways five vessels for the
South American service, all mo
tor ships. A Spanish company,
also companies registered in Bel
gium, France and Italv have an
nourced new construction.
China Now Allows Press
To Use Its Discretion
SHANGHAL-—(AP)—The ecrit

tempt to unify China believed to
have been passed, the nationalist
government has abelished the
press censorship on Chirese
newspapers. The censorship has
been in effect for many months,
a gvoernment censor being main
tained in every newspaper office.
Although the censorship is now
lifted the papers are admonished
to “use care and prudence in the

King George Likgs Old
White Hat Best Of All
e
COWES, Ia of Wight—~ (&) —
King George is so fond of his old
white yachting cap that he has
brought it out for the 11th year.
It is a quaint old ean totally un
like thogse affected by “swanky” 4
yvacht gskippers. It is round like a
pancake without any peak and
looks like those worn lilv sailors in
the Royal Navy. o
His old white yachting trousers
are now gerving through t&an
tenth yachting season. *His Ma
jectry has made them last, he
confided to intimate f§iends here .
by having them cleaned by a spec
idl process instead of sending them
ito the laundry. .
