- “Work of the same nature will prebably be in store
for the candidates at the practice session Thursday
afternoon. Running of signals and other polishing
p work will likely be carried out too, in preparation
10r7ane 11rst scrimmage.

line on the team that will repre

this fall. The affair will likely
" get started about four o'clock.
Every man out for the team
will likely see service during the
. afternoon. This includes the
' ireshmen too, for they are 1o get
their first taste of the Varg'ty
at this time. If any are carried
over from Saturday afternoon, they
wil likely get their share in the
- scrimmages of next week.
Mercer First
The Mercer Bears from Macon
will furnish the first oppositicn

team that has been intent defeat

FRESHMEN BUSY
Members of the freshman foo:-
ball team were givg insiructions
at the close of practice yegterday
afternoon to be in full uniform
for today’s worko:ilt‘. This means
that rougher wo will be rhe
menu for the boys this afternoon.
Heretofore the pads have been lefl
off, but they wil be used the
greater portion of the time from
now on. ?
Blocking, tackling, hitting the
dummy, and other work of that
nature will probably be Coach
Gene Smith’s order for today. The
freshies will get a chance ito mix
things with the Varsity Satu}rz’fay
afternoon. The work for ¥riday
will probably be on the same order
as that of Thursday.
Prospects Good.
Prospects for a good team to
represen. the freghman this year
are very bright. A number of
of the state, and a few from other
high schoa! stars from all sections
states are on hand ag building ma
terial for the team. Five players
from the Athens High School ‘eam
of lagt year that won the State
Football Championship are out
working for a place on the freshie
eleven. These are Leathers, guard;
Matthews, guard; Ham'l‘on, end;
Mell, quarter; and Costa, halfback.
The team that will represent the
firgt year men will be hcavier than
that of former years, but that doeg
not necessarily mean that it will
be the best team. ‘A husky look
ing bunch they are, and they have
the prospects of doing great things
in the future. What they w'll do
remaing to be seen. They have a
sot of work between them and a
successful record.
No injuries are reported at pres.
ent and the team is going forward
nicely in the work of rounding into
a well-balanced football machine.
More can be known of them after
the tusgle with the Vargity Satur
day afternoon.
