was decried Wednesday by Dr. Hen
ry Noble MacCracken, president of
Vassar College, in a radio speech
here. Dr. MacCracken exhorted
New York “to maintain its ancient
honor of kindly toleration.*
The speech, on “Religious Liber
ty in tho United States," which was
broadcast from station WJZ, was
made at the invitation of the Cal
vert Associates. This organisation
comprises citizens from both Re
publican and Democratic parties
’and includes Catholics and Pro
testants.
Dr. MacCracken declared that
while the ohly real issue of the
campaign was th» church in poli
tics, the question was not a parti
san one. He cited with approval
the warning Issued by Herbert
Hoover against this peril, and also
the views of the Democratic'
leader, Colonel E, M, House, who
wrote:
